Florida House of Representatives Lower house of the Florida Legislature

The Florida House of Representatives is the lower house of the Florida Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Florida, the Florida Senate being the upper house. Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution of Florida, adopted in 1968, defines the role of the Legislature and how it is to be constituted. The House is composed of 120 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of approximately 157,000 residents. Legislative districts are drawn on the basis of population figures, provided by the federal decennial census. Senators' terms begin immediately, upon their election. As of 2019, Republicans hold the majority in the State House with 71 seats; Democrats are in the minority with 46 seats. Three seats are vacant due to resignations.

Lincoln Rafael Díaz-Balart is a Cuban-American attorney and politician. He was the U.S. Representative for Florida's 21st congressional district from 1993 to 2011. He is a member of the Republican Party. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. He retired from Congress in 2011 and his younger brother, Mario Díaz-Balart, who had previously represented Florida's 25th congressional district, succeeded him. He is currently chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute. After leaving Congress, he started a law practice and a consulting firm, both based in Miami, Florida.

Primary elections were held on January 14, 2014. Young, who had already announced that he would not be running for re-election in 2014, was re-elected in 2012 with 57 percent of the vote. With 100% of the precincts reporting, David Jolly was declared the winner of the special election.

The 2016 United States House of Representatives elections in Florida were held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 to elect the 27 U.S. Representatives from the state of Florida, one from each of the state's 27 congressional districts. The elections coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices, including President of the United States. A lawsuit challenging the districts under Florida's Congressional District Boundaries Amendment was filed in 2012 and was resolved in 2015. The results of the lawsuit will have major repercussions on the congressional races in Florida in 2016. The primaries were held on August 30.

Incumbent Republican Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam is term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third consecutive term. Democrat Nikki Fried defeated Republican Matt Caldwell. Fried became the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida, as US Senator Bill Nelson simultaneously lost reelection.

The 2018 United States House of Representatives elections in Florida were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, to elect the 27 U.S. Representatives from the state of Florida, one from each of the state's 27 congressional districts. The elections coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices, including a gubernatorial election. The party primaries were held on August 28, 2018. The state congressional delegation changed from a 16–11 Republican majority to a slim 14–13 Republican majority, one short from a Democratic flip. This is the most seats Democrats have had in Florida since 1982.

The 2018 California Attorney General election was held on November 6, 2018, to elect the Attorney General of California. 2014 election winner Kamala Harris was elected to the United States Senate during the 2016 Senate elections; incumbent Democratic Attorney General, Xavier Becerra won election to a full term.

Sean Shaw

Sean Michael Shaw is an American attorney and politician from the State of Florida. A member of the Democratic party, he represented Florida House of Representatives District 61, which includes portions of Hillsborough County in and around Tampa, including Ybor City and Tampa Heights, from 2016 to 2018. Shaw was the Democratic nominee for the 2018 Florida Attorney General election.

An election for Mayor of Tampa was held on March 5, 2019. The election is officially nonpartisan, and the winner will be elected to a four-year term.
