Hollow Creek is located in southern Jefferson County 12 miles (19 km) southeast of downtown Louisville.

As of the census [5] of 2000, there were 815 people, 309 households, and 262 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,661.2 inhabitants per square mile (1,413.6/km2). There were 315 housing units at an average density of 1,415.0 per square mile (546.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.74% White, 4.54% African American, 0.74% Native American, and 0.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.49% of the population.
There were 309 households, out of which 28.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.1% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.9% were non-families. 13.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 2.89.
