A number of beauty queens have run and been elected for political office and have become prominent politicians, [1] [2] and it has been said that "participation in beauty pageants can serve as a path to power for women". [3]

A beauty pageant is a competition in which the contestants are judged and ranked based on various physical and mental attributes. Per its name, beauty pageants traditionally focus on judging the contestants' physical attractiveness, sometimes solely so, but most modern beauty pageants have since expanded to also judge contestants based on "inner beauty"—their individual traits and characteristics, including personality, intelligence, aptitude, moral character, and charity. Miss Nicaragua was a Nicaraguan beauty pageant. It was held from 1955 until 2023, when the organization cancelled it for political reasons.

The Señorita Panamá is a national beauty pageant in Panama. As of the 2024 edition, Señorita Panamá winners represent Panamá in Miss Universe. The Miss Panama brand started in 1952, when the Panamanian Institute of Tourism received an invitation from Miss Universe to send a representative. In 1975, the Señorita Panamá name was used for the first time, reverting to Miss Panama in 1976. In 1982, Señorita Panamá was created by RPC Channel 4 as an alternative to send its winners to the Miss World contest in London. These pageants, along with smaller pageants such as Miss International Panamá and Miss World Panamá celebrated to select delegates for international representations.

Miss Tourism International is an annual international beauty pageant run and owned by Malaysia–based D’Touch International Sdn. Bhd. Foundation.

Ana Nisi Goyco Graziani was a Puerto Rican politician, senator, pharmacist and beauty pageant titleholder. She won the Miss World Puerto Rico beauty pageant in 1972 and represented Puerto Rico in Miss World 1972 in London. Goyco then served as a member of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1980 to 1992. Goyco died on February 8, 2019.

Bendice La Corona Tierra/Miss Earth Argentina is a national Beauty pageant that selects Argentina's representative to the Miss Earth pageant.

Miss International 2013, the 53rd Miss International pageant, was held on December 17, 2013 at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Alejandra Andreu, Miss International 2008, crowned Bea Santiago of the Philippines at the end of the event. This was the second consecutive year Japan hosted the pageant.

The Big Four or the Big League Pageants refers to the four major international beauty pageants for women — Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Earth.

Janelee Marcus Chaparro Colón, known professionally as Janelee Chaparro, is a Puerto Rican model and beauty queen who represented Puerto Rico at Miss World 2012 where she finished in the Top 30 and at Miss Grand International 2013 where she became the first winner in the pageant's history.

Reinas de Costa Rica is a national beauty pageant in Costa Rica that selects representatives to the Miss World and Miss International pageant. After the Miss Costa Rica pageant stopped sending contestants to the Miss World and Miss International pageants in 2006, the franchise was acquired by the Reinas de Costa Rica organization presided by Alan Aleman. However, after two years of absence in the Miss World pageant in 2017-2018, the organization eventually lost the franchise to the newly established contest, Concurso Nacional de Belleza de Costa Rica in 2019. The organization also lost the Miss Earth franchise to Jose Vásconez in 2016.

Wilbert Ting Tolentino is a Filipino entrepreneur, restaurateur, philanthropist and a vlogger. Tolentino owns bars, a spas, restaurants and trading business.

Aces & Queens is a Philippine beauty camp that provides training and coaching to beauty pageant contestants. According to ABS-CBN, mentorship offered by camps such as Aces and Queens and Kagandahang Flores, another center offering pageant training, was credited for the successes of Filipino candidates in international beauty contests since 2010.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Miss Grand Puerto Rico</span> Beauty pageant title in Puerto Rico

Miss Grand Puerto Rico is a national title bestowed upon a woman chosen to represent Puerto Rico at Miss Grand International, an annual international beauty pageant promoting peace and opposing all forms of conflict. The national pageant of Miss Grand International for Puerto Rico is currently conducted by Nuestra Belleza Puerto Rico, Inc., to which MGI PLC, the owner of Miss Grand International, awarded the franchise in 2016. One of the winners of the "Nuestra Belleza Puerto Rico" pageant gets the title of Miss Grand Puerto Rico.
