Besides the above four central prisons, the state has 7 district jails, 99 sub-jails, a women's jail and an open jail.
The state has two district jails at Itanagar and at Tezu respectively.
Apart from the above-mentioned 6 central jails, Assam has 22 district jails, 1 sub-jail, an open jail and a special jail.

To augment the capacity of jails, the Government is building new jails at Pulwama, Anantnag, Kishtwar, and Doda (Bhaderwah).[ citation needed ]
Jharkhand also has 16 District Jails, 6 Sub Jails, 1 Borstal School and 1 Open Jail cum Rehabilitation Center. [8]
Karnataka has 105 prisons including 9 Central Prisons, 21 district prisons, 30 taluk jails, 44 revenue taluk jails [11] (sub-jails), 1 borstal school, 1 open jail, 2 special jails and 1 other jail (Juvenile Jail).
Kerala also has 11 district jails, 16 sub-jails, 3 women's jail, 1 borstal school, 3 open jails, 16 special jails and 1 other jail.
Madhya Pradesh also has 41 District Jails, 73 Sub Jails and 6 Open Jails. [8]
The state also has 28 district jails, 100 sub-jails, 1 women's jail, 1 borstal school, 13 open jails, 1 special jail and 1 other jail.
There are two district jails at Churachandpur and Chandel. Both are non-functional.
There is also a sub-jail at Jiribam which is temporarily closed.
Although the state has 4 district jails, it does not have any central jail.

Telangana State Prisons Department introduced the Video Linkage System between prisons and courts for the first time in the country, which enabled the delivery of speedy justice to prisoners under trial.
The state [23] also has 2 district jails and 10 sub-jails. One women's jail also exists in the complex of Kendriya Sansodhanagar, Tripura, Bishalgarh. A new district jail at Ambassa and a new sub-jail at Santirbazar will be opened in the near future.
Uttar Pradesh has the largest prison department in India and one of the largest around the world consisting of 73 total prisons (As of 2021 [update] ).

Pulhal Central Prison is a central prison complex located in Chennai, India. It is about 23 km from the city centre. The prison became operational from 2006 replacing the erstwhile Chennai Central Prison.
Central University of Haryana is a central university in Jant-Pali villages, just 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the City of Mahendragarh in Mahendragarh district of Haryana, India, has been established by an Act of Parliament: "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by the Government of India. The territorial jurisdiction of Central University of Haryana is for the whole of the Haryana. The first Convocation of the university was held on 1 March 2014. The Punjab Prisons is a correctional organization, a uniformed service and an attached department of the provincial Home Department in Punjab, Pakistan. The organization works under administrative control of the Additional Chief Secretary Home to Government of the Punjab, Pakistan. Functional head of the organization is Inspector General of Prisons who manages 69 prisons in the province. The organization is responsible for custody, control, care and correction of prisoners confined in various central, district and special jails in the province of Punjab, Pakistan).
Inspector General of Prisons, shortened to IG of Prisons or IG Prisons, is the highest rank in the provincial prison and probation service, usually the provincial commanding and controlling officer and chief/head of all district, central, special and women jails/prisons, borstal institutions, and remand homes in a province in Bangladesh, India or Pakistan.
The Haryana Police Department is the law enforcement agency for the state of Haryana, India. Present DGP of Haryana Police is Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor since August 16, 2023. He is an IPS officer of 1990 batch.
The State Armed Police Forces of India are the police units established for dealing with serious law and order situations requiring a higher level of armed expertise than normal. The State Armed Police Forces exist in addition to the ordinary police services of the various states.
Prisons in India are overcrowded and eight of out ten prisoners in Indian jails await trial. There are 1319 prisons in India as of 2021. Currently, there are about 1400 prisons. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of prisoners increased 13% from 2020 to 2021, making over 80% of the prisons overcrowded. After the Supreme Court order, a number of prisoners were released in 2020 to decongest the jails, reducing the overall prison occupancy in 20 states and two Union Territories to a little over 93%. However, the occupancy rate increased to 130% again by 2021. About 63 unnatural deaths took place in Indian prisons. Among the major states, Tamil Nadu is the only state which has less than 100% occupancy followed by Karnataka.
Sipahijala District is a district of Tripura, India. This district was created in January 2012 when four new districts were established in Tripura, taking the number of districts in the state from four to eight. Part of the district was formed from the former district of West Tripura. The principal towns in the district are Bishalgarh, Bishramganj, Melaghar and Sonamura.

Prisons in Pakistan and their administration, is a Provincial competency under the Constitution of Pakistan. Pakistan has the 23rd largest prison population in the world and the 5th largest death row population. Around 64.5% of prisoners are awaiting trial prisoners. 98.6% of prisoners are male, 1.7% are juveniles and 1.2% of those held are foreign citizens. As of 2018 Pakistan had an official occupancy capacity for 56,499 prisoners but held 80,145 prisoners.
Commissioners of Police in India are IPS officers who head the police force in a police commissionerate. A police commissionerate can combine several adjoining districts under it. A Police Commissioner may or may not hold certain powers of the executive magistrate, contrary to the Superintendent of Police (SP) or Senior SP (SSP) in charge of a police district who depends on the district magistrate to issue orders. Commissioner of Police (CP) is a post that can be held by an IPS officer of the rank SP and above, depending upon the sanction provided by the respective state government.
The Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services is a state agency of Kerala that operates prisons and borstal schools. It has its headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. The Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services is headed by the Director General of Prisons.
Central Prison, Vijayapura, one of the oldest prisons in the country, is located in a 15th-century heritage structure belonging to the Adil Shahi era. Earlier, it was known as Central Prison, Bijapur. It has a lofty Persian-style entrance, black-stoned wide walls and Arabic scriptures carved in stone slab. After the district was renamed as Vijayapura, the jail is also renamed as the Central Prison, Vijayapura. It is the oldest prison complex in Karnataka and one of the oldest jail buildings in India.
