The Suzuki Vitara Brezza is a subcompact crossover SUV from Suzuki and manufactured exclusively by Maruti Suzuki in India. The Brezza is the first Suzuki-branded car which was fully developed in India. [2] [3] It is their fourth attempt in the crossover SUV segment after the Vitara (LY), XL-7 (North America) and SX4 S-Cross. This SUV is designed as cheaper alternative of the global market Vitara and targeted to young audiences in Asia and Africa.
It is also marketed by Toyota as the Toyota Urban Cruiser since 2020.
It was unveiled first in India at the 13th Auto Expo in February 2016. [4] [3] It is based on the XA Alpha, a concept car first unveiled in 2012. [5] The SUV is based on the global market Vitara's platform and design language. [6]
It is Suzuki's first attempt in the sub-4 meter subcompact crossover SUV segment in India, which fits the lower bracket of India's GST structure. [7]
Originally, the Vitara Brezza is solely powered by a 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced D13A DDiS four-cylinder turbodiesel engine which produces 66 kW (89 hp; 90 PS) and 200 N⋅m (150 lb⋅ft) of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automated manual transmission. [8] The fuel economy is stated at 24.29 km/L (68.6 mpg‑imp; 57.1 mpg‑US).
The Vitara Brezza is also exported to India's neighboring countries, such as to Nepal. [9]
The Vitara Brezza received its facelift in February 2020. [10] The front bumper, skid plates, headlights, taillights, wheels, seat's fabric upholstery and infotainment system was upgraded. [11] The sole turbo-diesel engine has been replaced by a Bharat Stage 6 stage-compliant 1.5 L K15B four-cylinder petrol engine, the same engine that powered Ertiga and Jimny. It produces 77 kW (103 hp; 105 PS) and 138 N⋅m (102 lb⋅ft) of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, both is equipped with SHVS mild hybrid system. The fuel economy is stated at 17.03 km/L (48.1 mpg‑imp; 40.1 mpg‑US) for manual transmission option and 18.76 km/L (53.0 mpg‑imp; 44.1 mpg‑US) for automatic transmission option. [12] [13] The new engine made the Vitara Brezza lose its GST advantage because the petrol engine capacity exceeding the 1200 cc limit. [14]
Suzuki expanded the export of the Vitara Brezza to several African markets since 2021, which is enabled by the use of petrol engine that is more suitable for markets outside India. [15] [16] The SHVS mild hybrid technology is not equipped for export models.
The facelifted Vitara Brezza is sold by Toyota as the Toyota Urban Cruiser, which debuted in India on 22 August 2020. [17] [18] The front bumper is revised to resemble the 2020 facelift Toyota Fortuner. The "Urban Cruiser" nameplate was previously used for the twin version of the Japanese market XP110 series Toyota Ist that was sold in Europe between 2008 and 2014. The vehicle was also introduced in South Africa in March 2021. [19]

Results differ from the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza because Toyota recommends a safer position for Group 0+ children than Maruti Suzuki which improved dynamics of the 18 month-old child in the test. The dual seatbelt reminders was mandatory since July 2019 in India, [22] which partially explains the increase in adult occupant protection score.
In 2017, the Vitara Brezza was named as the Indian Car of the Year. [23]
