Head of the Harbor is a village in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island, New York, United States. The population was 1,472 at the time of the 2010 census. [3]
The Village of Head of the Harbor is located entirely within the Town of Smithtown. On the border with Stony Brook Village, Head of the Harbor hosts the Avalon Nature Preserve; a privately owned memorial park of 216 acres [4] consisting of trails and landmarks. Due to proximity, common, shared landmark, and heavy forestation, the North is seen as an extension of Stony Brook itself. It's this part of the village where Robert Mercer lives, [5] owing to Renaissance Technologies' headquarters in Three Village.
Head of the Harbor incorporated as a village in 1928. [1]
