In India, an Inter State Bus Terminal or Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is a bus terminus that provides bus service to destinations located in other states. An ISBT may also provide bus services to destinations in the same state. Mostly ISBT Term is used in the Northern Part of India, In the western part of India, ST Stand or State Transport Term is used.
As of November 2024, Delhi has 3 operational ISBTs (managed by the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC)), 3 more planned and approved for construction, [1] and few more have been proposed. [2] [3]
At 37 acres (150,000 m2), the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Bus Terminus in Chennai, India, is the second largest bus station in Asia. [5] As of 2010, the terminus handled more than 500 buses at a time, and 3,000 buses and 250,000 passengers a day. [6]
Many Indian state governments have their own fleet of buses which are run under their state transport department. As per statistics, the State Road Transport Undertakings (STUs) altogether operates 1,50,000 buses. State-wise bus fleet is as follows

Indira Gandhi International Airport is the primary international airport serving New Delhi, the capital of India, and the National Capital Region (NCR). The airport, spread over an area of 5,106 acres (2,066 ha), is situated in Palam, Delhi, 15 km (9.3 mi) southwest of the New Delhi Railway Station and 16 km (9.9 mi) from New Delhi city centre.
Sarai Kale Khan is an urban village in the South East Delhi district of Delhi. Located next to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station on the Indian Railways network, this station serves as one of Delhi's five main railway hubs and operates as both the originating and terminal station for 60 trains. The ISBT functions as a terminus for most buses heading to cities and towns south of Delhi and includes a DTC bus depot, supporting the Mudrika Seva and various other bus routes.
The Red Line is a rapid transit metro line of the Delhi Metro in Delhi, India. It is mostly an elevated line and has 29 stations that runs from Rithala to Shaheed Sthal with a total distance of 34.55 km. The Tis Hazari – Shahdara section of this line was the first stretch of the Delhi Metro that was constructed and commissioned. The line connects the areas of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and the districts of Shahdara, Central Delhi and North West Delhi in Delhi.
Delhi has significant reliance on its transport infrastructure. The city has developed a highly efficient public transport system with the introduction of the Delhi Metro, which is undergoing a rapid modernization and expansion since 2006. There are 16.6 million registered vehicles in the city as of 30 June 2014, which is the highest in the world among all cities, most of which do not follow any pollution emission norm, while the Delhi metropolitan region has 11.2 million vehicles. Delhi and NCR lose nearly 42 crore man-hours every month while commuting between home and office through public transport, due to the traffic congestion. Therefore, serious efforts, including a number of transport infrastructure projects, are under way to encourage usage of public transport in the city.

Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is a public transport company which provides bus services in the Indian state Rajasthan. It is headquartered in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The corporation was established by Government of Rajasthan on 1 October 1964 under the Road Transport Act 1950. RSRTC operates ordinary, express and deluxe services.
The Western Peripheral Expressway (WPE) or Kundli–Manesar–Palwal Expressway, is an operational 6-lane, 135.6 km (84.3 mi)-long Expressway in the Haryana state of India. Along with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, the Western Peripheral Expressway is expected to divert more than 50,000 heavy vehicles away from Delhi, which will help to maintain good air quality in Delhi. Western Peripheral Expressway along with Eastern Peripheral Expressway completes the largest Ring Road around Delhi. There are 10 tolled entries and exits, from north to south - Kundli, Kharkhoda, Bahadurgarh, Badli, Fartukhnagar, Panchgaon, Manesar, Taoru, Sohna & Palwal. Toll rate notified in December 2018 is INR1.35 per km for cars, INR2.18 per km for light motor vehicles, INR4.98 per km for trucks and buses, and two wheelers are not permitted on the expressway.
Anand Vihar is an interchange metro station located on the Blue and Pink lines of the Delhi Metro. Anand Vihar served as the terminus of the Blue line until July 13, 2011. The station is situated in the locality of Anand Vihar, near the interstate border between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, and functions as a major connectivity hub for East Delhi. It is seamlessly integrated with the Anand Vihar ISBT and the Anand Vihar Terminal of Indian Railways. The upcoming RapidX station at Anand Vihar will further enhance connectivity, providing faster transit options to neighbouring cities and boosting intermodal transportation links in the region.
The Dwarka Sector 21 Metro station, located on the Blue Line and Airport Express Line of the Delhi Metro, serves as a major metro and multimodal interchange hub. It is situated near the Dwarka ISBT to the west and the Bijwasan railway station of the Indian Railways network to the east. It served as the terminal station for the Airport Express Line from its opening until 16 September 2023, when Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 became the new terminal.
The Delhi Aerocity metro station is located on the Delhi Airport Express Line of the Delhi Metro. This station is located near the National Highway 8. While the Airport Express Line was opened on 23 February 2011, this station was not opened to the public until Independence Day, Monday 15 August 2011, to allow a buildup of demand.
The Delhi Metro is a rapid transit system that serves Delhi and the adjoining satellite cities of Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida, Bahadurgarh, and Ballabhgarh in the National Capital Region of India. The system consists of 10 colour-coded lines serving 256 stations, with a total length of 350.42 kilometres (217.74 mi). It is India's largest and busiest metro rail system and the second-oldest, after the Kolkata Metro. The metro has a mix of underground, at-grade, and elevated stations using broad-gauge and standard-gauge tracks. The metro makes over 4,300 trips daily.
Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Inter State Bus Terminus or Mohali Bus Stand is an India's first air conditioned bus station located in the sector 56-57 of Mohali city. It was constructed at a cost of ₹700 crore (US$84 million) and opened to public on 16 December 2016. It will have 1844 Punjab Roadways buses with 1810 ordinary and 34 super integral coach AC buses.
The Maharana Pratap Interstate Bus Terminus (Maharana Pratap ISBT), popularly known as Kashmere Gate Interstate Bus Terminus (Kashmere Gate ISBT), located in Delhi, is the oldest and one of the largest Inter-State Bus Terminals in India. It operates bus services between Delhi and the neighbouring states and union territories of Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Spanning about 5.3 acres, it handles over 1,800 buses a day.
The Swami Vivekanand Interstate Bus Terminus (Swami Vivekanand ISBT), commonly referred to as the Anand Vihar Interstate Bus Terminus (Anand Vihar ISBT), is one of Delhi's three Inter-State Bus Terminals. Located in Anand Vihar, it serves as a major hub for bus services connecting Delhi with neighbouring states, primarily Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Bijwasan railway station, on Delhi–Jaipur line lies immediate southwest of Delhi's main airport the IGI Airport, in Bijwasan in South Delhi in India. The station, part of Delhi Suburban Railway, is being upgraded to the world class regional multimodal interchange for the IGI airport by 2024. It will connect to the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor in south at Patli railway station. It will be the major railway connectivity hub for the IGI Airport along with the Aerocity connectivity hub.

Urban Extension Road-II or NH-344M is an upcoming 75.7 km long, 6 lanes & 6 lanes wide grade separated expressway in Delhi NCR, India. It would start from National Highway 44 at Alipur then passes from Rohini, Mundka, Najafgarh, Dwarka and end at Delhi–Gurgaon Expressway on National Highway 48 near Mahipalpur. Its main route forms a semicircle on the western side of Delhi, additionally it has two side spurs - one from Bawana in Northwest Delhi to Sonipat in Bawana's North and second in west Delhi from between Tikri border & Najafgarh to NH9 Bahadurgarh south bypass.
