This is a list of electricity-generating power stations in the U.S. state of New York , sorted by type and name. A more complete list can be found on the NYISO website in the planning data and reference docs section where an annual report call the Load and Capacity Data Report, or the "Gold Book" is listed. The list is located in Table III-2 of the report. [2] [3]
In 2022, New York had a total summer capacity of 39,689 MW through all of its power plants, and a net generation of 125,185 GWh. [4] In 2023, the electrical energy generation mix was 47.7% natural gas, 22.1% nuclear, 21.9% hydroelectric, 3.9% wind, 2% solar, 1.3% biomass, 0.3% petroleum, and 0.8% other. Small-scale solar including customer-owned photovoltaic panels delivered an additional net 3,973 GWh to New York's electricity grid in 2023. This was about 60 percent more than the amount generated by the state's utility-scale photovoltaic plants. [1]

NRG Energy, Inc. is an American energy company, headquartered in Houston, Texas. It was formerly the wholesale arm of Northern States Power Company (NSP), which became Xcel Energy, but became independent in 2000. NRG Energy is involved in energy generation and retail electricity. Their portfolio includes natural gas generation, coal generation, oil generation, nuclear generation, wind generation, utility-scale generation, and distributed solar generation. NRG serves over 7 million retail customers in 24 US states including Texas, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio; the District of Columbia, and eight provinces in Canada.
The net capacity factor is the unitless ratio of actual electrical energy output over a given period of time to the theoretical maximum electrical energy output over that period. The theoretical maximum energy output of a given installation is defined as that due to its continuous operation at full nameplate capacity over the relevant period. The capacity factor can be calculated for any electricity producing installation, such as a fuel consuming power plant or one using renewable energy, such as wind, the sun or hydro-electric installations. The average capacity factor can also be defined for any class of such installations, and can be used to compare different types of electricity production.
