Major is a senior military officer rank used in many countries. When used unhyphenated and in conjunction with no other indicators, major is one rank above captain in armies and air forces, and one rank below lieutenant colonel. It is considered the most junior of the senior officer ranks.
Polkovnik is a military rank used mostly in Slavic-speaking countries which corresponds to a colonel in English-speaking states, coronel in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking states and oberst in several German-speaking and Scandinavian countries. It was originally a rank in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Russian Empire. However, in Cossack Hetmanate and Sloboda Ukraine, polkovnyk was an administrative rank similar to a governor. Usually this word is translated as colonel, however the transliteration is also in common usage, for the sake of the historical and social context. Polkovnik began as a commander of a distinct group of troops (polk), arranged for battle.
The rank of lieutenant in Eastern Europe is one used in Slavophone armed forces. Depending on the country, it is either the lowest or second lowest officer rank.

Podpolkovnik is a military rank in Slavic and nearby countries which corresponds to the lieutenant colonel in the English-speaking states and military.
Kapitan is used manifold as rank, grade, or rank designation in the Army, Air Force or Navy of numerous countries and armed forces. In member countries of NATO-alliance Kapitan is a commissioned officer rank, rated OF-2 in line to the NATO officers rank system. The almost equivalent OF-2 officer, e.g. in the US Army, is the Captain rank.
The Slovak Air Force, known since 2002 as the Air Force of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, is the aviation and air defense branch of the Slovak Armed Forces. Operating 15 aircraft and 18 helicopters from three air bases : Malacky–Kuchyňa, Sliač, Prešov. It succeeded the Czechoslovak Air Force together with the Czech Air Force in 1993. The Slovak Air Force is part of NATO Integrated Air Defense System – NATINADS.

The Military Music Band of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic is a musical element of the Bratislava Military Command of the Slovak Armed Forces that serves as the primary military band in the Slovak Republic. It accompanies the Honour Guard of the President of the Slovak Republic military and national ceremonies, military oaths, and state funerals, all of which are protocol events. It also represents the military of Slovakia in festive events such as military tattoos and symphonic concerts. On July 1, 2009, it has been under the command of the Bratislava Garrison Headquarters, which was part of the Training Force and Support of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. Exactly 5 years later, the Chief of Staff of the Slovak Ground Forces put the band under its jurisdiction. The director and commanding officer of the band is currently Major Peter Apolen, who has been serving in this position since 2005.
