The Military ranks of Mongolia are the military insignia used by the Mongolian Armed Forces and other military organisations such as Border defense troops, Internal troops, National emergency management agency, General executive agency of Court decision, General intelligence agency, and the State special security department. [1]

Current ranks and insignia

Current rank system is established in 2003 by introducing Sergeant major and Master sergeant ranks.[ citation needed ] In 2006 Brigadier general, General ranks were introduced and Colonel general, General of the Army ranks were abolished. [2] Current set of rank insignia introduced in 2017. Officers insignia ulzii replaced by five-pointed star and non-commissioned officers insignia pattern replaced by chevrons. [3]

Ranks and insignia from 1990 to 1998

In 1990, by the decree of Presidium of People's great khural, officers and non-commissioned officers insignia changed to 1936 design ulzii and "AA" letters of abbreviation People's army removed from enlisted personnel's shoulder board. [9]

In 1998, by the Presidential decree No.180, new uniform and rank insignia design approved. [10] In 2011 generals shoulder board insignia ulzii changed to five pointed star [11] and camouflage pattern of all field uniforms and shoulder boards changed to 4-tone digital pattern.

The military ranks of Finland are the military insignia used by the Finnish Defence Forces. The ranks incorporate features from the Swedish, German, and Russian armed forces. In addition, the system has some typically Finnish characteristics that are mostly due to the personnel structure of the Finnish Defence Forces. The ranks have official names in Finnish and Swedish languages and official English translations. The Swedish forms are used in all Swedish-language communications in Finland, e.g. in Swedish-speaking units of the Finnish Defence Force. The system of ranks in the Swedish Armed Forces is slightly different.

The Mongolian People's Army, also known as the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army or the Mongolian Red Army, was an institution of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party constituting as the armed forces of the Mongolian People's Republic. It was established on 18 March 1921 as a secondary army under Soviet Red Army command during the 1920s and during World War II. In 1992, the army's structure changed and then reorganized and renamed as the Mongolian Armed Forces.

The Military Band of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mongolia is the main military band of the Armed Forces of Mongolia. The band was formed in 1950 and began as the foremost musical group of the Mongolian People's Army. It was led for over 30 years by Colonel Navaany Tserenpil who drastically changed the band's style and structure to reflect the Russian model. Tserenpil, who wrote over 100 marches for the band, is known as the Mongolian March King. Today, the MAF Band participates in receptions dedicated to state holidays, parades, and accompanies the visits of heads of state and government to Mongolia.

The National Defense University (MNDU) is an accredited Mongolian military university located in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. On March 24, 1921, the Provisional People’s Government and the Central Committee of the Party held a joint meeting to address military organization issues. During this meeting, they adopted a resolution stating: “...a military school should be established to train intelligent Mongolian soldiers, educate them in military studies, and prepare them to become commanding officers.” This resolution marked the official decision to establish the first military school, and on October 15, 1921, the school commenced its first classes.The NDU prepares officers and NCOs alike to have grounded leadership skills, physical and moral strength and a high military and civilian education.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">National Police Agency (Mongolia)</span> Law enforcement agency

The National Police Agency is an agency that is part of the Government of Mongolia and acts as a reserve force for the Armed Forces of Mongolia. It is currently an agency of the Mongolian Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs and is the primary law enforcement organization in Mongolia. The Police is assisted by the Directorate of the Internal Troops of Mongolia.
