Salisbury Township was a civil township of Sangamon County, Illinois from 1861 to 1989. The population was 591 at the 1980 census. [2]
The voters of Sangamon County approved the township form of government in the November 6, 1860 election. On March 1, 1861, the county board approved the ordinance creating the original 22 townships, one of which was Sackett Township. [1]
The name was changed from Sackett Township to Salisbury Township [3] on September 9, 1867.[ citation needed ]
In 1989, Salisbury Township was extinguished and its territory annexed to Fancy Creek and Gardner townships. [4]

Gardner Township is located in Sangamon County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 4,245 and it contained 1,732 housing units. The township contains the unincorporated communities of Bradfordton and Salisbury.
Illiopolis Township is located in Sangamon County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,314 and it contained 555 housing units.
Island Grove Township is located in Sangamon County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 621 and it contained 273 housing units.
