The Varanasi City Police Commissionerate (VCPC) is the law enforcement agency for the city of Varanasi, the third largest city of Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is a part of Uttar Pradesh Police and has a responsibilities of investigation and law and order within the municipal limits of Varanasi.
It is headed by an IPS officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) as its Commissioner of Police, who is appointed by the Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
The first and current police commissioner of Varanasi is 1996 batch IPS officer A Satish Ganesh.
Before 2021, Varanasi district police came under Varanasi police zone and Varanasi police range of Uttar Pradesh Police. Varanasi zone is headed by an IPS officer in the rank of Additional director general of police (ADG), whereas Varanasi range is headed by an IPS officer in the rank of Inspector General of Police (IG). Varanasi Police was headed by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). [1]
On 25 March 2021, after the successful implementation of commissionerate system in the state's capital Lucknow and Gautam Buddha Nagar, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's cabinet passed the order of making another 2 commissionerates in the other two metropolitan cities of the state.

Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. With over 200 million inhabitants, it is the most populated state in India as well as the most populous country subdivision in the world. It was established in 1950 after India had become a republic.
