Benning Heights is a residential neighborhood located in northeast Washington, D.C. [1] It is bounded by East Capitol Street to the south, Brooks Street NE to the north, 44th Street NE and Benning Road NE to the west, and Division Avenue NE to the east. It is served by the Benning Road Metro Rail station on the Blue Line and Silver Line of the Washington Metro (Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority/WMATA).
Politically, Benning Heights is in Ward 7.
According to Benning Heights' Twists and Turns, [2] within the neighborhood's boundaries "are the federal parks named for the former Civil War forts of Fort Circle and Fort Chaplin. Fort Dupont Park, also a former Civil War fortification, creates the long south-western border of the neighborhood along Ridge Road.
The neighborhood takes its name from early farmer and entrepreneur William Benning who owned most of the land in the neighborhood.
Near the Benning Road boundary is historic Woodlawn Cemetery (Washington, D.C.), a much-neglected, hilly burial ground for black and white Washington residents dating from 1895. Among prominent people buried there is Mississippi senator Branche K. Bruce, an African-American who made his home in the Shaw neighborhood."
Fort Totten is a Washington Metro station in northeastern Washington, D.C. It acts as a transfer point between the Green, Yellow and Red Lines. It is the last station on the Green and Yellow lines in the District of Columbia before heading into Maryland. It is triply unique in being a 3-story station, being the only multi-level transfer station built above ground, and being the only such station to have island platforms on both levels, as opposed to just the lower level. The station's name comes from a Civil War-era fortification which itself was named after General Joseph Gilbert Totten, the Chief Engineer of the antebellum US Army.
Benning Road is an island-platformed Washington Metro station in the Benning Ridge neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., United States. The station was opened on November 22, 1980, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for the Blue and Silver Lines, the station is located in a residential area near the intersection of Benning Road and East Capitol Street. It is the first station after the Blue and Silver Lines diverge from the Orange Line east of the Anacostia River, and also the last station in the District of Columbia going east.
Congress Heights is an island-platformed Washington Metro station in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C., United States. The station was opened on January 13, 2001, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for only the Green Line, the station is located at Alabama Avenue and 13th Street, lying under St. Elizabeths Hospital. Congress Heights is the last Green Line station in the District of Columbia going southeast.
Southeast is the southeastern quadrant of Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, and is located south of East Capitol Street and east of South Capitol Street. It includes the Capitol Hill and Anacostia neighborhoods, the Navy Yard, the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), the U.S. Marine Barracks, the Anacostia River waterfront, Eastern Market, the remains of several Civil War-era forts, historic St. Elizabeths Hospital, RFK Stadium, Nationals Park, and the Congressional Cemetery. Kingman Park is a residential neighborhood in the Northeast quadrant of Washington, D.C., the capital city of the United States. Both neighborhoods are in DC Neighborhood Cluster 20 along with the University Heights neighborhood. Michigan Park is home to two established Civic Associations: the North Michigan Park Civic Association which has its established boundaries that include both Michigan Park and North Michigan Park and the Queens Chapel Civic Association. The Queens Chapel association meets regularly at Union Wesley African Methodist Zion Church and its boundaries are between 16th Street NE and Webster Street NE to the north, Michigan Avenue NE to the south, and South Dakota Avenue NE to the west.
University Heights is a neighborhood adjacent to The Catholic University of America in Ward 5 of Northeast Washington, D.C. in the Upper Northeast area element. It is located east of the University and west of the Franciscan Monastery, bounded by the tracks for the Red Line of the Washington Metro to the west; 14th Street NE to the east; Taylor Street to the north; and Otis Street to the south. University Heights is in DC Neighborhood Cluster 20 along with the Michigan Park and North Michigan Park neighborhoods.
Woodley Park is a neighborhood in Northwest, Washington, DC. It is bounded on the north by Woodley Road and Klingle Road, on the east by the National Zoo and Rock Creek Park, on the south by Calvert Street, on the southwest by Cleveland Avenue, and on the west by 34th Street.

Manor Park is a neighborhood in Ward 4 of northwest Washington, D.C.. The National Capital Planning Commission 1967 "District Communities" map indicates this neighborhood is roughly bounded between 8th Street NW to the west, North Capitol Street NW, Blair Road NW, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Red Line train tracks to the east, Rittenhouse Street NW to the north, and Missouri Avenue NW to the south. Manor Park borders the adjacent neighborhoods of Takoma Park, Brightwood, and Brightwood Park in NW Washington D.C. and also borders the Riggs Park neighborhood in NE Washington D.C. In 1940, the Manor Park Citizens Association deemed the boundaries to be Eighth Street, Whittier Street, North Capitol Street, and Concord Street.
Cathedral Heights is a small, affluent residential neighborhood located in the upper Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. It is approximately bounded by Woodley Road to the north, Fulton Street to the south, Wisconsin Avenue to the east, and Glover Archbold Park and Idaho Avenue to the west.
Pleasant Hill is a neighborhood located in Ward 5 of Northeast Washington, D.C.. Pleasant Hill is contained between Allison Street NE and Bates Road NE to the north, Taylor Street NE to the south, the Washington Metropolitan Area Red Line tracks to the east, and North Capitol Street NW to the west. Washington, D.C., is administratively divided into four geographical quadrants of unequal size, each delineated by their ordinal directions from the medallion located in the Crypt under the Rotunda of the Capitol. Street and number addressing, centered on the Capitol, radiates out into each of the quadrants, producing a number of intersections of identically named cross-streets in each quadrant. Originally, the District of Columbia was a near-perfect square. However, even then the Capitol was never located at the geographic center of the territory. As a result, the quadrants are of greatly varying size. Northwest is quite large, encompassing over a third of the city's geographical area, while Southwest is little more than a neighborhood and military base.
East River Heights is a residential and mixed use neighborhood located in Ward 7 of Washington, DC. It is considered the "downtown" area of the ward and has high walkability ratings. Its borders are East Capital Street, Minnesota Ave, Benning Road up to 41st Street. It is a neighborhood of retired and working people and many children. There is quite a bit of development occurring. The houses are small but have large yards. It is centrally located. It is located between the Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road stations on the Washington Metro.
