Merauke Regency is a regency in the far south of the Indonesian province of South Papua. It covers an area of 45,013.35 km2, and had a population of 195,716 at the 2010 Census and 230,932 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 243,722, comprising 126,508 males and 117,214 females. The administrative centre is the town of Merauke; this was projected since 2013 to become an independent city (kota) separate from Merauke Regency, but the alteration has been deferred. It is also the provincial capital of the province of South Papua, more specifically in Salor located in Kurik District. Merauke is the largest regency in Indonesia, with an area of 45,013.35 km2, slightly larger than Estonia.
Sorong Regency is a regency of the Southwest Papua province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 13,075.28 km2, and had a population of 70,619 at the 2010 Census, and 118,679 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 129,963. Its administrative centre is the town of Aimas. Sorong Regency surrounds Sorong City (Kota) on the landward side; the city is administratively independent of the Regency and is not included in the above statistics; Sorong City has an airport, Sorong Airport, which also serves the Regency.
Jayapura Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in Papua Province of Indonesia. It is situated to the west of but does not include the city of Jayapura. Previously covering most of the north-east portion of Papua province, it was reduced substantially in extent from 12 November 2002, when the eastern districts were split off to form a new Keerom Regency and the western districts were split off to form a new Sarmi Regency. It now covers an area of 17,516.6 km2 (but see Note (h) under table below), and had a population of 111,943 at the 2010 Census and 166,171 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 171,670. The administrative centre is the town of Sentani, which had 24,482 inhabitants in mid 2022 in the 20.562 of its town (kelurahan) area.
Waropen Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in Papua Province, Indonesia. The Regency covers an area of 10,843.97 km2, and it had a population of 24,639 at the 2010 Census and 33,943 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 37,643 - comprising 19,754 males and 17,889 females. The capital is the town of Botawa.
Supiori Regency is a regency in the Indonesian province of Papua. The Regency has an area of 634.24 km2 including the Aruri Islands group to the south, and had a population of 15,874 at the 2010 Census and 22,547 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 24,013 - comprising 12,434 males and 11,579 females. Until 8 January 2004, this area was part of the Biak Numfor Regency, from which it was split off in accordance with the Law dated 18 December 2003.
Puncak Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province of Central Papua; it is not to be confused with Puncak Jaya Regency, which is within the same province, and from whose western districts those districts now forming Puncak Papua Regency were separated in 2008. It covers an area of 7,396.47 km2, and had a population of 93,218 at the 2010 Census and 114,741 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2022 was 116,279. The administrative centre is at Ilaga. The name of the regency is currently being changed to Puncak Papua Regency.
Nduga Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province of Highland Papua. Nduga Regency was created on 4 January 2008 by separation from Jayawijaya Regency in accordance with Law No. 6/2008. It covers an area of 12,941 km2, and had a population of 79,053 at the 2010 Census and 106,533 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 109,630 - comprising 59,587 males and 50,043 females. The administrative centre is at the town of Kenyam.
Nabire Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province of Central Papua. It covers an area of 12,010.65 km2, and had a population of 129,893 at the 2010 Census and 169,136 at the 2020 Census, comprising 87,688 males and 81,448 females. The official estimate as at mid 2022 was 173,043 - comprising 90,823 males and 82,220 females. The town of Nabire, which faces onto Cenderawasih Bay, is the regency seat.
Mamberamo Raya Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in Papua Province, Indonesia; it was created on 15 March 2007 from parts of Sarmi Regency and Waropen Regency. It covers an area of 23,813.91 km2, and had a population of 18,365 at the 2010 Census which had virtually doubled to 36,483 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 38,636. The administrative centre is at the town of Burmeso in Mamberamo Tengah District.
Oceania is a region centered on the islands of the tropical Pacific Ocean. Conceptions of what constitutes Oceania vary, with it being defined in various ways, often geopolitically or geographically. In the geopolitical conception used by the United Nations, International Olympic Committee, and many atlases, the Oceanic region includes Australia and the nations of the Pacific from Papua New Guinea east, but not the Malay Archipelago or Indonesian New Guinea. The term is sometimes used more specifically to denote Australasia as a geographic continent, or biogeographically as a synonym for either the Australasian realm or the Oceanian realm.
Kaimana Regency is a regency in the south of West Papua province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 18,500 sq. km, and had a population of 46,249 at the 2010 Census and 62,256 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 65,490. The administrative centre is the town of Kaimana. The Mairasi languages are spoken in the regency, among other languages.
Tambrauw Regency is a regency of Southwest Papua Province, Indonesia, in the Bird's Head Peninsula of Papua Island. It was created on 29 October 2008 from what had been an eastern part of Sorong Regency, originally as part of the province of West Papua. Much of the regency is located on the Tamrau Mountains that the local government declarated Tambrauw as a "conservation regency".
