The Turkic Academy, previously known as Turkic World Educational and Scientific Cooperation Organization, or International Turkic Academy is an international institute for Turkology research involving Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Hungary and Uzbekistan have observer status. [1] [2]
On 3 October 2009 during the Nakhchivan Sumkit, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed the creation of an international research center tasked with conducting research on the Turkic world. Next year, on 25 May 2010, the Turkic Academy was founded in Kazakhstan. On 23 August 2012, it was agreed for the organization to become international institution during the second summit of the Turkic Council in Bishkek. Ratification was completed in 2021. [2]
In 2018, Hungary was granted observer status in the academy during the 6th Turkic Council summit. [1] Uzbekistan was granted observer status at the 2022 Samarkand Summit. [2]
The logo of the academy included the English phrase "International Turkic Academy" with Latin script and Old Turkic "𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰜:𐰀𐰚𐰀𐰓𐰢𐰃" in Old Turkic script. This was criticized due to a misspelling in Old Turkic. [3] Old Turkic phrase is changed later to "𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰜:𐰀𐰴𐰓𐰢𐰃", while the term "International" dropped from English part with the 2023 logo.
The Academy published an academic journal "Altaistics, Turkology and Mongolistics" quarterly between 2013 and 2020. There was a news bulletin "Turkic Weekly" published weekly consisting of recent news from Turkic nations between November 2015 and June 2022. The journal "Global-Turk" was published between 2014-2021. [4]
The Academy completed "Common Turkic History", "Common Turkic Literature" and "Geography of the Turkic World" projects in 2023. [5] Also, the academy holds a scientific council annually.

Academy is administered by president and vice-presidents from each member state. Presidency term is four years, with rotating presidency among member states. [11] Second President Kydyrali's term is expanded by four years in 2018. [12] In November 2022, Shahin Mustafayev is appointed as president. [13]

Turkology is a complex of humanities sciences studying languages, history, literature, folklore, culture, and ethnology of people speaking Turkic languages and Turkic peoples in chronological and comparative context. This includes ethnic groups from the Sakha in East Siberia to the Turks in the Balkans and the Gagauz in Moldova.
Cuman or Kuman was a West Kipchak Turkic language spoken by the Cumans and Kipchaks; the language was similar to today's various languages of the West Kipchak branch. Cuman is documented in medieval works, including the Codex Cumanicus, and in early modern manuscripts, like the notebook of Benedictine monk Johannes ex Grafing. It was a literary language in Central and Eastern Europe that left a rich literary inheritance. The language became the main language of the Golden Horde.
The Central Asian Union (CAU), later called the Central Asian Economic Union, was an intergovernmental organization for economic integration between the Central Asian post-Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan between 1994 and 2004. Tajikistan joined the Union in 1996 as an observer. Several proposals to restore the Union have been put forward since its dissolution.
The Organization of Turkic States (OTS), formerly called the Turkic Council or the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, is an intergovernmental organization comprising all but one of the internationally recognized Turkic sovereign states: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan; while Hungary and Turkmenistan are observers. Its overarching aim is promoting comprehensive cooperation among the Turkic peoples. First proposed by Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2006, it was founded on 3 October 2009 in Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan. The General Secretariat is located in Turkey's Istanbul.

Darkhan Kydyrali is a Kazakh scholar and writer, Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor. He is an academician of National Academy of Science Republic of Kazakhstan. From 2014 to August 31, 2022 Dr. Kydyrali President of the International Turkic Academy. Since July 2016 he has been working as chairman of the board of the Egemen Kazakhstan national newspaper. He is a member of political bureau council of Nur Otan party. He has a first council diplomatic rank. On September 2, 2022, Darkhan Kydyrali was appointed Minister of information and social development of Kazakhstan.
Gullu Yologlu is an Azerbaijani academic and the chairperson of the World Turkology Center. They have contributed ethnology, folklore studies, literature, history, religious studies and other scientific fields in Azerbaijan by providing information, analysis and outcomes with her scholarly and scholarly-publicistic articles and books, and her scientific and artistic radio and television programs since the 1990s. Her main research areas are faiths, traditions, ethnic identities, shamanist past, material and non-material culture of small-numbered Turkic peoples living in countries from the Siberia to the Balkans.
The World Turks Qurultai is an international organisation of Turkic peoples. The World Turks Qurultai describes itself as "an international non-political platform designed to unite all the Turk people for cultural and spiritual integration." The first annual World Turks Qurultai was held in July 2017.
Relations between Turkic Council and Azerbaijan started from the year of 2009 until present. Taking into account of the establishment date of the organization, Azerbaijan continues relations as a member of the founding country.
The TURKPA in full, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States, is an international organization comprising some of the Turkic countries. It was founded on 21 November 2008 in Istanbul. The General Secretariat is in Baku, Azerbaijan. The member countries are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Hungary and Northern Cyprus are observers.

The First All-Union Turkological Congress took place in Baku from February 26 to March 6, 1926, within the territory of the Soviet Union. The congress focused on the history, literature, language, alphabet, ethnography, and culture of the Turkic peoples residing in the Soviet territory. It resulted in the adoption of several important decisions for the near future. The scientific and methodological principles for the transition to the Latin script were thoroughly discussed and prepared during the congress.
Vugar Mikail oghlu Ahmad – Scientific researcher, member of New York Academy of Sciences from 2003. of the. Was elected Central Asian Institute of Folk History, named after A. Makhpirat of the Uzbekistan Republic, Turan Academy of Sciences, and a member of the International Academy of Turkic World Researchers, was awarded the International Order "Gold Star" for scientific achievement on Turkic world. Was elected a Corresponding Member of the International Arts and Sciences Academy.
The 2022 Organization of Turkic States summit, officially the Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States summit, was a meeting between the leaders of the Organization of Turkic States in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on 11 November 2022.
Timur Kocaoğlu is an American and Turkish historian and political scientist of Uzbek descent. He was the first Uzbek scientist to defend his doctoral dissertation at Columbia University. He was born in Istanbul in 1947 in the family of Osman Kocaoğlu, one of the leaders of the Bukharan People's Soviet Republic. In 1971, he graduated from the Faculty of Literature, Department of Turkish Language and Literature of Istanbul University. In 1977, he studied at the Department of Arts, Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures (MELAC) at Columbia University, and in 1979 he defended two master's theses in political science at the Department of International Studies of Columbia University. In 1982, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "National Identity in Soviet Central Asian Prose Fiction of the Post-Stalin Period: 1953-1982" under the scientific supervision of the famous professor Edward Allworth, who was founding director at Columbia of both the Program on Soviet Nationality Problems and the Center for the Study of Central Asia. After Timur Kocaoğlu defended this dissertation, he worked at Radio Liberty for many years.
