The eighth generation Honda Accord for Japanese and European markets is a mid-size car. It went on sale in mid 2008 for the 2009 model year. The Japanese-built Accord is also sold in Australia and New Zealand as the Accord Euro. It is also available in US, Canada, and Mexico as the second-generation Acura TSX. From late 2009, it is available as Honda Spirior in China. While not as large as the North American Accord, sold in Japan as the Honda Inspire, this generation Accord is not in compliance with Japanese Governments regulations concerning exterior dimensions, and is not classified as a compact sedan in Japan.
Honda revealed some detail shots and a teaser video of the European-spec Accord in January 2008, before debuting it at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The new Accord comes in both sedan and wagon forms, offering a host of engine and transmission options.
Available engines are the 2.0-litre i4, 2.4-litre i4, and 3.5-litre V6 i-VTEC petrol engines (V6 was US only), as well as the 2.2-litre i-DTEC diesel engine.
All engines come with a 6-speed manual transmission (except Japan where all lineup was automatic transmission only), while the petrol engines get in addition to that a 5-speed automatic transmission.
Dimensionally, the Accord has become longer, wider, and lower for a sleek, sporty look, along with sharper body lines and slightly redesigned headlights. Honda has built the Accord on its new ACE body structure, available with a host of new safety features.
In Australia, the Euro variant of this model won the prestigious Wheels Car of the Year award for 2008. [2] It also won the South African Car Of The Year award for 2009. In March 2012, Wheels magazine Australia compared 11 mid-sized sedans, and the Accord Euro won top position.
Production ended at the end of February 2015 for Australian and New Zealand spec models, with sales lasting until the end of 2015. Sales also ended in Europe, Israel, and Turkey as well.
It was a version with wagon body. The concept vehicle was unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. [3]
Production version included 2.4 L DOHC i-VTEC engine rated 206 PS (152 kW; 203 hp), 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
The vehicle went on sale on December 5, 2008 in Japan. [4] The Tourer was also released in the US as the Acura TSX Sport Wagon in Fall 2010 as a 2011 model. [5]
The Accord Type S was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008.
The Type S is available in both Saloon and Tourer. The Type S has 18" alloy wheels, a front spoiler, and a rear diffuser (Saloon only) which differentiate it from the other models.
The Type S runs with the improved iDTEC 2.2 diesel engine which now has 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp). The increased power is due to a modified turbo, cylinder head and larger intercooler. Also, the radiator has grown in size. In addition, the clutch has been updated to handle the increased torque of 380 Nm over the standard 350 Nm.
The front brake discs on the Type S are larger in diameter than the saloon versions being 320 mm Ø the 150ps versions have 300 mm Ø Front discs, using twin piston brake calipers (instead of single). Note: this larger brake setup used for all Australian-delivered Accord Euros regardless of specification.
Other Type S additions are red lighting in the dash and in the courtesy lights in the footwells and in the map lighting binnacle.
In addition to increased power, the torque is now up from 350 N⋅m (258 lb⋅ft) to 380 N⋅m (280 lb⋅ft). [6]
It is a concept car with a supercharged K24A inline four engine, 6-speed manual transmission, 245/35R19 tires. The vehicle was unveiled at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon. [7] [8]
The Accord Euro, which had been selling along the larger US-designed Accord in Australia and New Zealand since 2003, was launched in Australia in June 2008 as the second generation. Beginning at A$32,990, the Euro's base model contained a plethora of equipment, including dual-zone climate control, power windows, and an auxiliary jack. Serving as the central model, the "Luxury", starting from A$39,990 added a sunroof, leather interior, fog-lights, front/rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windscreen wipers, (among others). The flagship model, the "Luxury Navi" started at A$42,990 added a navigation system and a rear parking camera. [9]
All models carried the 2.4 engine, which had been refined, resulting in improved outputs of 148kW, (compared to 140kW previously), and better fuel economy, reducing from 9.1L/100KM to 8.9L/100KM, among other things. [10]
All models came with side/curtain airbags, front active head restraints as well as ABS and Honda's Vehicle Stability Assist program.
In October 2014, it was announced by Honda Australia's director, Stephen Collins, that the Accord Euro would be pulled from the market in July 2015 due to cessation of production in Japan. The second generation Euro had amassed approximately 25,000 sales within Australia, making it a strong competitor within Australia's mid-size class. [11]

Acura is the luxury and performance division of Japanese automaker Honda, based primarily in North America. The brand was launched on March 27, 1986, marketing luxury and performance automobiles. Acura sells cars in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Kuwait. The company has also previously sold cars in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Russia, and Ukraine. Plans to introduce Acura to the Japanese domestic market in the late 2000s did not eventuate due to the financial crisis of 2007–2008.
The Honda Integra, sold in North America as the Acura Integra and later the Acura RSX, is an automobile produced by the Japanese company Honda from 1985 until 2006, and then since 2021. It succeeded the Quint as a more luxurious and sport-oriented derivative of the Civic. The Integra was one of the launch models for Acura in the US in 1986 alongside the Acura Legend. Throughout its production run, the Integra was highly regarded for its handling and performance. The 1995–2001 Integra Type R is widely regarded as one of the best front-wheel-drive cars of all time.
The Honda Accord, also known as the Honda Inspire in Japan and China for certain generations, is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1976, best known for its four-door sedan variant, which has been one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989. The Accord nameplate has been applied to a variety of vehicles worldwide, including coupes, station wagons, hatchbacks and a Honda Crosstour crossover.
The Acura TSX is a compact executive car manufactured by Honda and sold through its Acura division from 2003 to 2014. The TSX spanned two generations, both derived from the corresponding Japanese/European versions of the Honda Accord, which were more compact and sporting-oriented than its larger North American counterpart, the latter platform which also used for the Acura TL which slotted above the TSX in Acura's lineup. All TSXs were built in Sayama, Saitama, Japan.
The Acura TL is a car that was manufactured by Acura, the North American luxury division of Honda. It was introduced in 1995 to replace the Acura Vigor and was badged for the Japanese-market from 1996 to 2000 as the Honda Inspire and from 1996 to 2004 as the Honda Saber. The TL was Acura's best-selling model until it was outsold by the MDX in 2007. In 2005, it ranked as the second best-selling luxury sedan in the United States behind the BMW 3 Series, but sales decreased after the 2008 model year. Four generations of the Acura TL were produced, with the final fourth generation TL premiering in 2008 as a 2009 model and ending production in 2014, when it was replaced together with the TSX by the TLX.
The Honda Inspire is a mid-size sedan derived from the Honda Accord chassis. The first Inspire debuted in late 1989 as the Accord Inspire, a sister nameplate to the Honda Vigor. It was sold at different retail channels in Japan, known as Honda Verno for the Vigor/Saber, and as the Inspire at Honda Clio stores.
The fourth-generation Honda Integra, produced by Honda, was introduced in Japan on 13 April 2001 and produced from July 2001 until August 2006. It was introduced in North America on 2 July 2001 as the Acura RSX, the name a part of Acura's naming scheme changing the names of its models from recognizable names like "Integra" or "Legend" to alphabetical designations in order for buyers to build more recognition to the marque, and not the individual cars.
The Honda City is a subcompact car which has been produced by the Japanese manufacturer Honda since 1981.
The Isuzu Aska was a nameplate used by Isuzu Motors Ltd. of Japan to denote their mid-size sedans from 1983 to 2002. Originally, the Aska was a version of GM's J-car produced by Isuzu, but later, after Isuzu pulled out of manufacturing passenger cars, the nameplate was applied to rebadged versions of the Subaru Legacy and Honda Accord sold through Isuzu's Japanese distribution network.
The Honda Legend is a series of V6-engined executive cars that was produced by Honda between 1985 and 2021, and served as its flagship vehicle. The Legend has also been sold under the Acura Legend, RL and RLX nameplates — the successive flagship vehicles of Honda's luxury Acura division in North America from 1986 until 2020.
The Honda Domani (ホンダ・ドマーニ) is a car made by Honda and marketed in east Asia, including Japan. The car was mutually developed during Rover's collaboration with Honda. It was introduced in November 1992, replacing the Concerto in Honda's lineup, although that model lasted until 1995 in Europe.
The sixth-generation Honda Civic is an automobile produced by Honda from 1995 until 2000. It was introduced in 1995 with 3-door hatchback, 4-door sedan and 2-door coupe body styles, replicating its predecessor's lineup. The sixth-generation Civic offered two new 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engines and a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) on the HX model. The coupe and sedan are 2.3 in (58 mm) longer and the hatchback is 4.3 in (109 mm) longer than the previous-generation Civic. This was the last generation of Civic to have front double-wishbone suspension, as the succeeding seventh generation would change the front suspension to a MacPherson strut.
The eighth-generation Honda Civic is a range of compact cars (C-segment) manufactured by Honda between 2005 and 2012, replacing the seventh-generation Civic. Four body styles were introduced throughout its production run, which are sedan, coupe, and both three-door and five-door hatchback. The sedan version was introduced with two distinct styling for different markets, with one of them sold as the Acura CSX in Canada and as the Ciimo 1.8 in China from 2012 until 2016. The hatchback versions formed the European-market Civic range, which received a different architecture, body design and smaller footprint, and solely produced in Swindon, United Kingdom.
The North American eighth generation Honda Accord is a mid-size car introduced in August 2007 for the 2008 model year. It is also marketed in parts of Asia and Australasia, and as the Honda Inspire in Japan.
The seventh-generation Honda Accord for the European and Japanese markets is a mid-size car that was available as a four-door sedan or a five-door station wagon and was produced by Honda from October 2002 to 2008. It won the 2002-03 Japan Car of the Year upon its launch.
The ninth-generation Honda Civic is a range of compact cars (C-segment) manufactured by Honda between 2011 and 2016, replacing the eighth-generation Civic. It was launched in the North American market in April 2011, Europe in February 2012 and Asia-Pacific in early 2012. Four body styles were introduced throughout its production run, which are sedan, coupe, hatchback and a station wagon version marketed as the Civic Tourer. The latter two make up for the European-market Civic range, which was produced in Swindon, United Kingdom, and received a completely different design and smaller exterior size. The hatchback version forms a basis for a Civic Type R (FK2) model, which was released later in 2015.
The sixth-generation Honda Accord was available as a four-door sedan, a two-door coupe, five-door hatch and station wagon and was produced by Honda from September 1997 until 2002 and from 1998 to 2003 in Europe.
The Honda Spirior is a mid-size sedan produced by Honda. It was introduced in 2009.
The tenth-generation Honda Civic(FC/FK) is a compact car (C-segment) manufactured by Honda from 2015 until 2022, replacing the ninth-generation Civic. It was first released in November 2015 in the North American market, followed by its introduction in Europe and Asia-Pacific in 2016, and in Japan in 2017. This generation marked the unification of the Civic range, as Honda ceased making a dedicated version for the European market—a strategy employed since the seventh-generation Civic—in favour of a globally marketed model. As the result, three body styles were introduced with a near-identical design which are sedan, hatchback, and coupe.
The fifth-generation Honda CR-V is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Honda since 2016, replacing the fourth-generation CR-V. It was first unveiled on 13 October 2016 in Detroit, United States. The fifth-generation of CR-V was available in 5-seater and 7-seater variants in markets other than North America.
