Humsafar Express is a fully premium service with AC-3 Tier and Sleeper class accommodation having all the modern facilities designed and operated by Indian Railways. "Humsafar" is a Urdu word meaning "co-passenger" The first service was inaugurated on 16 December 2016 between Gorakhpur and Anand Vihar Terminal, New Delhi. The fares of Humsafar Express at the time of launch are around 15–20% higher compared to normal AC-3 tier and Sleeper class fares.

However most of these Humsafar trains run with regular 3AC coaches without these enhancements. There are only a few trains that run with Humsafar coaches.
First class is the most luxurious and most expensive travel class of seats and service on a train, passenger ship, airplane, bus, or other system of transport. Compared to business class and economy class, it offers the best service and most comfortable accommodation.
A travel class is a quality of accommodation on public transport. The accommodation could be a seat or a cabin for example. Higher travel classes are designed to be more comfortable and are typically more expensive.
Indian Railways coaching stock consists of various travel class passenger coaches, freight wagons apart from specialized and dedicated coaching stock for other uses. Indian Railways operates India's railway system and comes under the purview of the Ministry of Railways of Government of India. As of 2022, it operates over 8000 trains daily with a inventory of 318,196 freight wagons and 84,863 passenger coaches. The rolling stock is manufactured by five units owned by Indian Railways, four public sector units and one private company.
The 12275 / 12276 Prayagraj Junction railway station - New Delhi Humsafar Express is a Superfast Express train of the Humsafar Express category belonging to Indian Railways - North Central Railway zone that runs between Prayagraj Junction railway station and New Delhi in India. It holds the record for longest distance between consecutive passenger halts. It is the seventh-fastest-running train in India. Earlier it used to run as 12275/76 Allahabad - New Delhi Duronto Express of Duronto Express category from 9 February 2010 to 14 September 2019 before being converted to Humsafar Express.

The budget was presented by the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in the Parliament on 25 February 2016. It was the final Railway Budget of India as after this budget, the Railway Budget got merged with the Union Budget of India.

This train was previously running only up to Patna Junction but recently this train has been extended up to Saharsa Junction by the Ministry of Railways.

The 12504/12503 Agartala–SMVT Bengaluru Humsafar Express is the longest-running Humsafar Express and 7th longest train service of Indian Railways, It is a fully air conditioned express train, connecting Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal, Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka and Agartala railway station, Agartala, the capital city of Tripura. It is currently being operated with 12503/12504 train numbers on a weekly basis. The train runs through states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Tripura. On its journey the train also touches some parts of Jharkhand in Pakur district but does not have the stoppage there.
The 20915 / 20916 Indore - Lingampalli Humsafar Express is an express train of the Indian Railways connecting Indore Junction in Madhya Pradesh and Lingampalli in Hyderabad, Telangana. Train no. 20915 leaves Indore Junction at 11:15 every Saturday and arrives Lingampalli at 12:55 the next Thursday. The return train 20916 leaves Lingampalli at 21:40 every Sunday and arrives Indore Junction at 00:25 the next Tuesday. Lingampalli-Inodre Humsafar Express runs with an average speed of 58 km/h.

Chennai Central–Ahmedabad Humsafar Express, also known as Ahmedabad Humsafar Express, is a 18 Coached partially air-conditioned version of Humsafar-type service running between Chennai Central and Ahmedabad Junction. It is one of the fastest train to connect Gujarat to Tamil Nadu, doing so in less than thirty hours. It is maintained by the Ahmedabad division of Western Railway (WR). In the up direction, from Ahmedabad to Chennai, the service runs with train number 22920 and in down direction, from Chennai to Ahmedabad, as train number 22919.
