The University of Yangon, located in Kamayut, Yangon, is the oldest university in Myanmar's modern education system and the best known university in Myanmar. The university offers mainly undergraduate and postgraduate degrees programs in liberal arts, sciences and law. Full-time bachelor's degrees were not offered at the university's main campus after the student protests of 1996. The bachelor's degree was re-offered from 2014 on, to the best students in the country. Today degrees in Political Science are offered to undergraduate students, as well as postgraduate diplomas in areas such as social work and geology.

The Sayawun Tin Shwe Literary Award has been presented annually since November 2002 under the patronage of the Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association (MWJA). Non-fiction books published in the previous year are eligible. The awards are named after the writer Sayawun Tin Shwe. The awards complement the government's National Literary Awards and Sarpay Beikman Manuscript Awards and the Pakokku U Ohn Pe literary award, Thuta Swesone literary award and Tun Foundation award.
The Myanmar Medical Association is Myanmar's only professional organisation of physicians. Founded in 1949 by Dr. Shwe Thwin, the association has a current membership of approximately 17,000 members (2011). It is administered by a central executive committee and is divided into 33 different societies dedicated to a broad range of medical specialties. MMA holds an annual conference and also provides continued medical education for its members. MMA publishes the Myanmar Medical Journal.
The Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards are presented annually to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Burmese Film Industry of Myanmar. The awards ceremony has been held annually since 1952. Each winner is presented with a golden statue and in recent years also a cash prize.
Myint Swe was a Burmese physician and writer. He is known for his first book and memoir, The Japanese Era Rangoon General Hospital, which chronicles the events at the only hospital in Yangon (Rangoon) open to non-Japanese during the Japanese occupation of Burma. It was a bestseller, and won the Burma National Literature Award, 2nd Prize for 1967. He published three more books though none achieved the first book's success.

Yoma Paw Kya Tae Myet Yay is a 2019 Burmese drama film starring Myint Myat, Htoo Aung, Aung Yay Chan, Kaung Myat San, Lin Aung Khit, Eaindra Kyaw Zin, Khine Thin Kyi, May Myint Mo. The film, produced by Bo Bo Film Production premiered in Myanmar on November 7, 2019.
Shwe Man Tin Maung was an influential Burmese dancer and founder of the Shwe Man Thabin family dance troupe, the last of its kind in Burma. He was considered one of the three most skilled zat pwe performers of his day, along with Kenneth Sein and Sein Aung Min, and led the Burmese Zat Thabin industry, following the example of Po Sein.
Tin Tin Nwet was a Burmese actress. She won Best Actress Award in 1970 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards. She had acted as leading actress in about 43 Burmese films.
Nwet Nwet Mu was a Burmese actress. She won Best Actress Award in 1974 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards. She was famous from the 1970s until her death.
May Thit was a Burmese actress and singer. She won Best Actress Award for 1960, Best Supporting Actress Award for 1964 and 1976 in Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards. She was famous around between 1950s and 1990s.
