UniTeam was an electoral alliance in the Philippines formed to support the candidacies of Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte in the 2022 presidential and vice-presidential elections and their allies in the 2022 Philippine general election. [5] [6] [7] [8] The alliance was formalized on November 29, 2021, with Senator Imee Marcos coining the name UniTeam. [9]
UniTeam as an electoral alliance was dissolved shortly after the elections, having served its purpose. However the term "UniTeam" continued to be used to refer to the relationship between now president Bongbong Marcos and his deputy, vice president Sara Duterte which collapsed by 2024.

In addition, the alliance's senatorial slate features guest candidates from the Nacionalista Party, Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL), Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), PDP–Laban, and People's Reform Party (PRP). Except for the NPC, all of the aforementioned parties are allied with Marcos and Duterte. [17]

It was clarified that the UniTeam was only made for the purpose of the 2022 election, [22] and no formal meeting has been held among its members as an alliance since then. [23]
UniTeam's Lakas-CMD formed the majority of the House of Representative's 19th Congress. This is the first time a vice president's party leads the lower house, although Marcos' Partido Federal ng Pilipinas is part of the coalition. [24] Out of the twelve upcoming members of the 24-seat Senate, only Risa Hontiveros is part of the opposition. [25]
Vice President Sara Duterte was appointed as Marcos' first Secretary of Education after they both took office in mid-2022. [26] Although she preferred to be Secretary of Defense [27] Over the next two years, Duterte's relationship with Marcos' allies detoriate particularly with House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Marcos' wife and first lady Liza Araneta. [26] She resigned in May 2023, from Lakas–CMD where she served as chairperson. Lakas is part of the ruling coalition. [28] [29]
In January 2024, President Marcos insist that "UniTeam" is still "vibrant", referring to his working relationship with his deputy. [30]
Duterte tendered resignation from her position as education secretary in June 2024. [31] When asked about her friendship with Marcos in September 2024, she said they were never friends and merely running mates in the 2022 elections. [32] Marcos responded expressing he was "deceived" about their supposed friendship. [33] In October 2024, she detailed her fallout with Marcos, who she says "does not know how to be president". [34] [35]
The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino is a populist political party in the Philippines founded in 1982. It was previously known as Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP–Laban) from 1983 to 2024 as a result of a merger with Lakas ng Bayan (Laban). It was part of the country's ruling party coalition from 1986 to 1992 under the administration of Corazon Aquino and the country's ruling party from 2016 to 2022 under the administration of Rodrigo Duterte.
Gilberto Eduardo Gerardo Cojuangco Teodoro Jr., nicknamed Gilbert or Gibo, is a Filipino lawyer, politician and business executive who is the incumbent Secretary of National Defense under the Marcos Jr. administration since 2023. He previously served in the same post from 2007 to 2009 under President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He was the nominee of Arroyo's Lakas–Kampi in the 2010 presidential election, which he lost to his second cousin, Noynoy Aquino.
Lakas–Christian Muslim Democrats, abbreviated as Lakas–CMD and also known simply as Lakas, is a political party in the Philippines. Lakas–CMD is considered to be on the centre-right of the political spectrum and is influenced by Christian democracy and Islamic democracy. Since the 2022 elections, Lakas–CMD is currently the biggest party in the House of Representatives, with the party's president, Martin Romualdez, serving as Speaker of the House. A daughter of 16th president Rodrigo Duterte, she previously served as the mayor of Davao City from 2016 to 2022, and from 2010 to 2013. She was also Davao City's vice mayor from 2007 to 2010.
Ferdinand Martin Gomez Romualdez is a Filipino businessman, lawyer and politician serving as the Speaker of the House of Representatives since 2022. He is also serving as the representative for the 1st district of Leyte since 2019 and previously from 2007 to 2016. He formerly served as the House Majority Leader from 2019 to 2022, and unsuccessfully ran for senator in the 2016 elections. He is a first cousin of President Bongbong Marcos. Since May 17, 2023, he has been widely considered to be the country's de facto "Prime Minister" after the ouster of Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, becoming the main catalyst to the 2024 Philippine political crisis.

A member of the Nacionalista Party, he was the Representative of Las Piñas from 2010 to 2016. Villar has also previously held executive positions in his family's businesses.

Rodante Dizon Marcoleta is a Filipino politician serving as the party-list representative for SAGIP Partylist since 2016. He is a former House Deputy Speaker of the 18th Congress from 2019 to 2022. A member of the religious organization Iglesia ni Cristo, and one of the vocal detractors against ABS-CBN, Marcoleta is one of the 70 representatives who voted to permanently deny the renewal of the network's franchise and responsible for the termination of landmark partnership deal between ABS-CBN and TV5. He is also the host of Net 25 public affairs program Sa Ganang Mamamayan and a fan of Korean dramas.
