Western Sydney is a major region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It has a number of different definitions, although the one consistently used is the region composed of the nine local government authorities which are all members of the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC). The NSW Government's Office of Western Sydney uses the broader Greater Western Sydney definition to refer to the region. The region lies in the Cumberland Plain.

Regions

Western Sydney as defined by the WSROC region covers 5,800 square kilometres (2,200 sq mi) and had an estimated resident population as at 30 June 2008 of 1,665,673. [1] The region comprises the areas administered by the Blacktown City Council, Blue Mountains City Council, Canterbury-Bankstown Council, Cumberland Council, Fairfield City Council, Hawkesbury City Council, Hills Shire Council, Liverpool City Council, City of Parramatta Council, and the Penrith City Council.

As well as the ten councils listed above, the GWS region includes Camden Council, Campbelltown City Council and Wollondilly Shire Council.

Western Sydney is considered a particularly crucial region in federal politics, [2] and the region's social conservativism has been credited with forming policy on migration and the treatment of asylum seekers by both major political parties. [3] Western Sydney voted 'no' in high margins in the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey held in 2017. 12 of the 17 seats that voted 'no' were from Western Sydney.

The Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) is an independent specialist tertiary education institution in Sydney, Australia. The college offers degree programmes in PDHPE teaching, physical education, sports coaching, health and fitness, dance education, and sports management. The institute was founded in 1917, and is located at the Sydney Olympic Park.

TAFE NSW Western Sydney now forms a part of TAFE NSW, the largest training and education provider in Australia. All TAFE NSW Institutes were united as one 'TAFE NSW' in an ongoing process starting in 2017. TAFE NSW Western Sydney was also known as Western Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW.

Its current membership includes 8 of the 13 Greater Western Sydney councils, making it one of the largest NSW Regional Organisations of Councils

Western Sydney Stadium

Western Sydney Stadium, commercially known as Bankwest Stadium is a rectangular field sports stadium in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia. It replaced the demolished Parramatta Stadium. The stadium opened in April 2019. It has a 30,000 seat capacity. The stadium is owned by the NSW Government, operated by VenuesLive, designed by Populous Architects and built by Lendlease with a build cost of $360 million. The stadium will host games across the major rectangular field sports in Sydney.
