Thangam Thenarasu (born 3 June 1966) is an Indian politician. He is a member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
He was born in Mallankinaru,Tamil Nadu. He has a bachelor's degree in Engineering. [2]
He has served as a Minister for Finance,Planning,Human Resources Management,Pensions and Pensionary benefits,Statistics and Archeology Minister of Tamil nadu. He was allocated Electricity and Non-Conventional Energy Development portfolios of minister V. Senthil Balaji who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a job racket case on 16 June 2023 by Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi on the recommendations of Chief Minister M K Stalin. [3]
He served as Minister for School Education in Tamil Nadu during 2006-2011. He has been elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly five times. [2] He is the son of the former Member of Legislative Assembly from Aruppukottai,V. Thangapandian.
He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate from Aruppukottai constituency in 1997–98 by-election,and 2006 election. [4] [5] He is the younger brother of recently elected Member of Parliament,Lok Sabha,from the Chennai South constituency,Thamizhachi Thangapandian.
Thenarasu,whose father was V. Thangapandian,a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government minister, [6] himself became Minister for Schools in the DMK government that gained power at the 2006 state assembly elections. Thenarasu stood as a candidate in the newly created constituency of Tiruchuli for the 2011 elections.
He filed a case in the court against the Tamil Nadu Government's decision to form an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in construction of Tamil Nadu legislative assembly-secretariat complex.

The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a Dravidian party founded by the former leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Vijayakant (Captain) at Madurai on 14 September 2005. The party was led by its founder until 14 December 2023 from its date of founding. From 14 December 2023,the DMDK is led by Vijayakant's wife Premallatha Vijayakant as general secretary of the party. The party served as the main opposition party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 27 May 2011 to 21 February 2016. The headquarters of the party is called Captain Aalayam,which is located at Jawaharlal Nehru Salai,Koyambedu,Chennai.
The thirteenth legislative assembly election,of Tamil Nadu was held on 8 May 2006. It was held for all 234 constituencies to elect the government in the state for the following five years. The votes were counted three days later on 11 May 2006 and all the results were out by the end of the day. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led (DMK) front won the elections,with the DMK emerging as the single-largest party with 96 seats,and its leader,M Karunanidhi was sworn in as Chief Minister for a fifth and final term. This election marked the first time the state saw a hung assembly with no party gaining a majority of its own. As a result,DMK formed a minority government with its allies,which is the first in the state since the 1952 election. 13th Assembly was instituted due to this election.
Arcot N. Veeraswami is a politician and a former minister for electricity in the Tamil Nadu State of India. He became the treasurer of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party and emerged as number three in the party after Karunanidhi and K Anbazhagan in the early 1980s. He was treated as the right-hand person to Karunanidhi and was also said to be the main peacemaker in the party. He was born in Kuppadichatham village in North Arcot district in Tamil Nadu on 21 April 1931 to Narayanasamy Naidu and Jeyammal. He finished his education before actively engaging in politics. The eleventh legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 2 May 1996. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led front won the election and its leader M. Karunanidhi,became the chief minister. This was his fourth term in office. S. Balakrishnan also known as So. Balakrishnan of Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC),became the Leader of the Opposition. The incumbent All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government was defeated in a landslide manner with its general secretary and outgoing chief minister J. Jayalalithaa losing the election from the Bargur constituency. She became the first Incumbent Chief Minister since M. Bakthavatsalam in 1967 to lose her own constituency.
The second legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 31 March 1957. This was the first election held after the linguistic reorganisation of Madras State in 1956. Indian National Congress and its leader,K. Kamaraj won the election and defeated their rival,Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1954,due to the resignation of C. Rajagopalachari,for his controversial Kula Kalvi Thittam,the leadership of Congress was contested between K. Kamaraj,and C. Subramaniam. Eventually,K. Kamaraj,won the support of the party,was elected leader and chief minister of Madras State in 1954. In a surprise move,he appointed both M. Bhaktavatsalam and C. Subramaniam,to his cabinet,allowing great unity amongst the Congress that ruled the state of Madras,for the next decade. This election saw future DMK leaders M. Karunanidhi and K. By-elections to eighteen state assembly constituencies were held in Tamil Nadu on 18 April 2019 together with 2019 Indian general election. It was considered to be mini-assembly election battle for the power in Tamil Nadu. The ruling government had to prove its majority while the opposition was trying hard to get maximum seats. There were 22 seats vacant in the Tamil Nadu assembly,By-election took place in two phases and in the first phase for 18 assembly constituencies together with Lok Sabha general election on 18 April 2019 in the state. Remaining 4 assembly constituencies election was held on 19 May. The counting of votes was conducted on 23 May,and on the same day the results were announced. Then the by-elections for 2 seats Vikravandi and Nanguneri were conducted on 21 October 2019
Thamizhachi Thangapandian,also known as Sumathy,is an Indian Tamil poet,lyricist,orator,politician and writer. She was elected to the Lok Sabha,lower house of the Parliament of India,from Chennai South constituency in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. She worked as a lecturer in English at Queen Mary's College,Chennai before entering politics.
