The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a Dravidian party founded by the former leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Vijayakant (Captain) at Madurai on 14 September 2005. The party was led by its founder until 14 December 2023 from its date of founding. From 14 December 2023,the DMDK is led by Vijayakant's wife Premallatha Vijayakant as general secretary of the party. The party served as the main opposition party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 27 May 2011 to 21 February 2016. The headquarters of the party is called Captain Aalayam,which is located at Jawaharlal Nehru Salai,Koyambedu,Chennai.
The thirteenth legislative assembly election,of Tamil Nadu was held on 8 May 2006. It was held for all 234 constituencies to elect the government in the state for the following five years. The votes were counted three days later on 11 May 2006 and all the results were out by the end of the day. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led (DMK) front won the elections,with the DMK emerging as the single-largest party with 96 seats,and its leader,M Karunanidhi was sworn in as Chief Minister for a fifth and final term. This election marked the first time the state saw a hung assembly with no party gaining a majority of its own. As a result,DMK formed a minority government with its allies,which is the first in the state since the 1952 election. 13th Assembly was instituted due to this election.
Arcot N. Veeraswami is a politician and a former minister for electricity in the Tamil Nadu State of India. He became the treasurer of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party and emerged as number three in the party after Karunanidhi and K Anbazhagan in the early 1980s. He was treated as the right-hand person to Karunanidhi and was also said to be the main peacemaker in the party. He was born in Kuppadichatham village in North Arcot district in Tamil Nadu on 21 April 1931 to Narayanasamy Naidu and Jeyammal. He finished his education before actively engaging in politics. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly six times. From 1989 to 1991,during the DMK rule,he served as the Minister for Food. Veeraswamy was the Minister for Health &Electricity between 1996 and 2001. Furthermore,between 2006 and 2011,he served as the Minister for Electricity and Rural Industries.

K. P. P. Samy was an Indian politician who served as Minister for Fisheries in Tamil Nadu state of India and as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Thiruvottiyur. He was a Member of Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam DMK candidate from fishermen-dominated Thiruvottiyur in 2016 election. He was also elected as MLA of Tiruvottiyur in 2006 election. He served as Minister for Fisheries including Fisheries Development and Fisheries Corporation at Thirteenth Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly under the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi in the Tamil Nadu state of India. He was Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam state Fisheries wing Secretary. He was born in Chennai on 1 July 1962. He died due to illness on 27 February 2020 at the age of 57.
The eleventh legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 2 May 1996. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led front won the election and its leader M. Karunanidhi,became the chief minister. This was his fourth term in office. S. Balakrishnan also known as So. Balakrishnan of Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC),became the Leader of the Opposition. The incumbent All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government was defeated in a landslide manner with its general secretary and outgoing chief minister J. Jayalalithaa losing the election from the Bargur constituency. She became the first Incumbent Chief Minister since M. Bakthavatsalam in 1967 to lose her own constituency.
The second legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 31 March 1957. This was the first election held after the linguistic reorganisation of Madras State in 1956. Indian National Congress and its leader,K. Kamaraj won the election and defeated their rival,Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1954,due to the resignation of C. Rajagopalachari,for his controversial Kula Kalvi Thittam,the leadership of Congress was contested between K. Kamaraj,and C. Subramaniam. Eventually,K. Kamaraj,won the support of the party,was elected leader and chief minister of Madras State in 1954. In a surprise move,he appointed both M. Bhaktavatsalam and C. Subramaniam,to his cabinet,allowing great unity amongst the Congress that ruled the state of Madras,for the next decade. This election saw future DMK leaders M. Karunanidhi and K. Anbazhagan win their first MLA seats in the legislative assembly.

The Dravidian veteran also worked as the Organisation Secretary of DMK and the 3rd General Secretary of AIADMK. He defeated the Indian National Congress candidate in Tiruvannamalai Assembly constituency by-election in 1963 on DMK ticket.

He won his first two elections from R k Nagar constituency as an AIADMK candidate.
R. S. Raja Kannappan,formerly known as S. Kannappan,is an Indian politician and Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and Higher Education. He also served as the Minister for Khadi and Village Industries from 2022 to 2023,Minister of Transport,Nationalised Transport,Motor Vehicles Act in the period 2021- March 2022 and also former Minister of Public Works,Highways and Electricity during 1991–1996. By-elections to eighteen state assembly constituencies were held in Tamil Nadu on 18 April 2019 together with 2019 Indian general election. It was considered to be mini-assembly election battle for the power in Tamil Nadu. The ruling government had to prove its majority while the opposition was trying hard to get maximum seats. There were 22 seats vacant in the Tamil Nadu assembly,By-election took place in two phases and in the first phase for 18 assembly constituencies together with Lok Sabha general election on 18 April 2019 in the state. Remaining 4 assembly constituencies election was held on 19 May. The counting of votes was conducted on 23 May,and on the same day the results were announced. Then the by-elections for 2 seats Vikravandi and Nanguneri were conducted on 21 October 2019

She was elected to the Lok Sabha,lower house of the Parliament of India,from Chennai South constituency in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
