Yulee is a Census county division (CCD) in Nassau County, Florida, United States. The population is currently 28,798 as of April 2018. Yulee is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area, which was home to 1,504,980 people in 2017. Today, the Yulee CCD is a residential bedroom community for those who commute to Jacksonville, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, or other locations in Southeast Georgia, but is working to diversify its tax base.
The Apalachicola National Forest is the largest U.S. National Forest in the state of Florida. It encompasses 632,890 acres and is the only national forest located in the Florida Panhandle. The National Forest provides water and land-based outdoors activities such as off-road biking, hiking, swimming, boating, hunting, fishing, horse-back riding, and off-road ATV usage.
De Soto National Forest, named for 16th-century Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, is 518,587 acres of pine forests in southern Mississippi. It is one of the most important protected areas for the biological diversity of the Gulf Coast ecoregion of North America.
Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail (GFBWT) is a 2,000 mile (3200 km) long collection of more than 500 locations in the U.S. state of Florida where the state's bird habitats are protected. The trail promotes birdwatching, environmental education and ecotourism. The GFBWT is a program of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, supported in part by the Florida Department of Transportation and the Wildlife Foundation of Florida. It is modeled after the successful Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Trail sites area identifiable by prominent road signs bearing the Swallow-tailed kite logo.
The Cary State Forest is in the U.S. state of Florida. The 13,385-acre (5,417 ha) forest is located in the northeast in Bryceville, Florida, a community between Baldwin and Callahan northwest of Jacksonville. It was established as the second State Forest of Florida, in 1937.
The Goethe State Forest is in the U.S. state of Florida. The 53,398-acre (216 km2) forest is located near the gulf coast, north of Dunnellon. Four trailheads are located on County Road 337. The main trail usage is equestrian, both riders and carts. Goethe is known for its population of red cockaded woodpeckers, a rare bird endemic to the longleaf pine forests of the southeastern coastal plain.
The Lake George State Forest is a designated protected area and state forest in the U.S. state of Florida. The 21,176-acre (8,570 ha) forest is located in northwestern Volusia County, Florida, near Lake George and the communities of Pierson, Barberville, and Volusia. It is overseen by the Florida Forest Service within the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The Wakulla State Forest is in the U.S. state of Florida. The 4,897-acre (20 km2) forest is located in the panhandle, near Tallahassee; it includes a major tract in Wakulla County and a small tract, the former Woodville State Forest, in Leon County. The forest is also a Wildlife Management Area managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Newnans Lake is a lake located off State Road 20, east of Gainesville, Florida. Approximately 1.12 miles (2 km) wide, Newnans Lake is home to many forms of wildlife, and had been designated as a protected site by Alachua County.
Santiam State Forest is one of six state forests managed by the Oregon Department of Forestry. The forest is located approximately 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Salem, Oregon, and includes 47,871 acres (193.73 km2) on the western slope of the Cascade Mountains in three Oregon counties: Clackamas, Linn, and Marion. It is bounded on the east by the Willamette National Forest and Mount Hood National Forest. Silver Falls State Park is located west of the forest. The rest of the land surrounding the forest belongs to the Bureau of Land Management or is privately owned. The forest is managed as part of the Department of Forestry's North Cascade District. It is the largest single block of state owned forest land in the Cascades.
Crooked Creek Wildlife Management Area is a 1,796-acre (7.27 km2) Wildlife Management Area in Carroll County, Virginia. It includes forests and open land among rolling hills ranging in elevation from 2,400 feet (730 m) above sea level to 3,000 feet (910 m). Portions of Crooked Creek and its east fork are found within the area. The area was once dominated by farmland with open areas formerly used for pasture, and the sites of a number of old houses may still be found across the property. The forests contain mixed hardwoods and pine, with Rhododendron thickets along the stream.
Powhatan Wildlife Management Area is a 4,462-acre (18.06 km2) Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Powhatan County, Virginia. Consisting primarily of former farmland, much of the area is currently covered by open fields; these combine with mature and new forest growth to provide habitat for a diverse array of wildlife. The property is divided by Route 60 and contains one interior parcel of privately owned land. The elevation of the property is between 200 and 350 feet above sea level.
Alexander State Forest is located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana near the town of Woodworth. It was established in 1923 as a state demonstration forest. It contains the Indian Creek Recreation Area and the Alexander State Forest Headquarters Building, constructed in 1935, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area is a Wildlife Management Area in Montgomery County, Maryland. It is a large contiguous forest of varied habitat, situated between the Potomac River and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal to the south, and Seneca Creek State Park to the east.
Fisheating Creek is a stream that flows into Lake Okeechobee in Florida. It is the only remaining free-flowing water course feeding into the lake, and the second-largest natural source for the lake. Most of the land surrounding the stream is either publicly owned or under conservation easements restricting development. The lower part of the stream remains in a largely natural state, and efforts are underway to restore the upper part of the stream to a more natural state.
Econfina Creek is a small river in the middle Florida Panhandle. It flows through hilly country, and has sections of whitewater rapids. Much of its flow comes from springs. The river ends at Deer Point Lake, a reservoir that provides the freshwater supply for Panama City and much of Bay County.
Charles H. Bronson State Forest is located north of Christmas, Florida. It covers almost 11,000 acres in southeastern Seminole and northeastern Orange County and is located just south of Little Big Econ State Forest. The St. Johns River forms part of the eastern boundary of the forest.
Belmore State Forest is located in Clay County, Florida.
Deep Creek State Forest (DCSF) is a 380-acre state forest 11 miles north of St. Augustine, Florida in St. Johns County, Florida. Deep Creek State Forest is located on both sides of Deep Creek, for which it is named. The state forest is west of the Guana River Wildlife Management Area across the Intracoastal Waterway.
