Hoichoi is an Indian subscription video on-demand and OTT streaming service, owned by SVF Entertainment Pvt Ltd. [1] [2] It is the first OTT platform in India [3] focusing mainly on Bengali content. [4] The name Hoichoi means excitement. [5]

It focuses primarily on Bengali language films and entertainment contents, but also provides English subtitles and Hindi dubbing. Apart from its market in Bangladesh and India, it also caters to Bengali diaspora that account for a major share of its subscription users. It has about 600 film titles and over 125 [6] original series. [7] The platform also started creating original films and expanding the films and TV shows genre. [8] [9]

It was launched on 20 September 2017, operating on a subscription-based business model. It introduced a freemium plan in 2021. [10]

Besides web and mobile, it is Chromecast and AirPlay-enabled and available on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Roku, Mi TV, LG Smart TV and Tizen. [4]

Partnership

ViewLift is Hoichoi's technology partner that controls the brand's OTT space; media and entertainment distribution, consumption and monetization. [11] SVF gave the mandate to ViewLift in October 2016 to maintain and develop the official website and app. [12]

In 2017, SVF assigned its creative mandate to advertising agency Rediffusion Y&R. The brand name Hoichoi was suggested by it. [5]

In 2020, HoiChoi partnered with Reliance Jio making its contents available for JioFiber and Jio set-top customers. [13]

Chakraborty has a significant following in West Bengal, Assam and other adjacent states in India and Bangladesh. He is a member of All India Trinamool Congress. He contested 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from Borjora Constituency.

Anirban Bhattacharya is an Indian actor, theatre actor, singer and director. His first successful theatre production was Debi Sarpamasta, written by Manoj Mitra, directed by Debesh Chattopadhyay. His other notable works are Anthony Soudamini, Nagamandala, Jara Agun Lagay, Bisorjan, FM Mahanagar, Karu Basana, Awdyo Shesh Rajani, Athoi etc. In 2017, he got the Mahindra Excellence Theatre Awards (META) as Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) for Awdyo Shesh Rajani. In 2015, he started his film career with the Zee Bangla telefilm Kader Kuler Bou. He got fame for his character as Bishan Roy from the film Eagoler Chokh. There are currently about 46 providers of over-the-top media services (OTT) in India, which distribute streaming media over the Internet. In fiscal year 2018, the OTT market in India was worth ₹2,150 crore. The streaming market in India is predicted to be worth $15 billion by 2030, with $12.5 billion coming from the video market and $2.5 billion from audio. The OTT market in fiscal year 2020 was estimated to be worth $1.7 billion.

<i>Gumnaami</i> 2019 film directed by Srijit Mukherji

Gumnaami is a 2019 Indian Bengali-language Factual film based on the true events directed by Srijit Mukherji, which deals with the mystery of Netaji's death, based on the Mukherjee Commission hearings and the book Conundrum written by Anuj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghose. It has been produced by Shrikant Mohta, Pranay Ranjan, and Mahendra Soni under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films. Prosenjit Chatterjee plays the roles of Subhas Chandra Bose and Gumnaami Baba.

<i>Hello</i> (TV series) 2017 Bengali web series

Hello is a Bengali-language streaming television series streaming on Hoichoi produced by SVF. The series stars Raima Sen, Joy Sengupta and Priyanka Sarkar. In the first scene of this series Raima Sen as Nandita received an MMS from an unknown number showing her husband Ananyo making love with Nina that turns her life upside down.

Eken Babu is a Bengali web series streaming on Hoichoi. The web series is based on Ekenbabu detective story which is written by Sujan Dasgupta. It's quite hard to believe Eken Babu as detective who actually looks like an ordinary Bengali man who earns a little by solving matters as a detective. Produced by the Eyewash Production season 1 of Eken Babu was released on 3 March 2018 With 6 episodes directed by Anirban Mallik. Later on 10 November in the same year hoichoi released the second season of the web series but this time the series was directed by Anupam Hari. The series stars Anirban Chakraborti in the titular role, Shoumyo Banerjee, and Debapriyo Bagchi in the main roles. The production company, Shree Venkatesh Films, announced, in 2021, that a film titled The Eken will be made for a theatrical release in 2022. After five successful seasons, Eken Babu will return for the sixth time in the web space in December 2022, as mentioned on 20 September 2022, at Hoichoi season 6— this time the centre of the adventure being Kolkata itself. Also, on 1 November 2022, SVF officially announced that The Eken is returning for its second installment in 2023.

Case Jaundice is a Bengali comedy web series which has a very interesting concept. It is a series that has been made entirely during the lockdown period. Directed by Subhankar Chattopadhyay the web series and shorts shot during the lockdown period of the COVID-19 Pandemic. All the cast and crew members have worked in the limitation of shooting remotely from home. In the web series all the characters communicated through phone and video calls.

Detective is an Indian Bengali thriller-drama film directed by Joydip Mukherjee and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. The film features Anirban Bhattacharya, Ishaa Saha in lead roles with Saheb Bhattacharya, Trina Saha, and Ambarish Bhattacharya in the supporting roles. The film is based on eponymous short story of Rabindranath Tagore. The film was released on 14 August 2020 on Bengali OTT platform Hoichoi. It is the first Bengali film released on OTT platform directly.

<i>Tangra Blues</i> 2021 Indian Bengali musical thriller film

Tangra Blues is a 2021 Indian Bengali language musical-thriller film directed by Supriyo Sen for producers Shree Venkatesh Films. Starring Parambrata Chatterjee and Madhumita Sarcar, the film revolves around music-maker Joyee and a music band leader Sanjib Mondal. It was released on 15 April 2021, coinciding with Bangla Noboborsho.

<i>Robindronath Ekhane Kawkhono Khete Aashenni</i> TV series

Robindronath Ekhane Kawkhono Khete Aashenni is a Bengali web series based on the thriller novel of the same name written by Bangladeshi writer Mohammad Nazim Uddin. The series has been released on West Bengal-based Bengali language OTT platform Hoichoi. It is directed by Indian director Srijit Mukherji. This is the second complete web series directed by Srijit Mukherji and his first work in Hoichoi. Initially, shooting was planned in both countries with the participation of several actors from Bangladesh and India, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shooting was done only in India. However, Azmeri Haque Badhon is the only Bangladeshi playing the central character "Mushkan Zuberi".

<i>Mandaar</i> 2021 Indian Bengali-language drama streaming television series

Mandaar is an Indian Bengali-language crime thriller drama streaming television series created by Anirban Bhattacharya and Pratik Dutta. A loose adaptation of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Bhattacharya makes his directorial debut on the OTT platform through this series. It stars Sohini Sarkar as Laili, Debasish Mondal as Mandaar (Macbeth), Debesh Roy Chowdhury as Dablu Bhai, and Anirban Bhattacharya as Muqaddar Mukherjee, a corrupt police officer.
