Kupia, or Balmiki, is an Indo-Aryan language related to Odia and spoken by Valmiki people in the Indian state of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The Valmiki are a tribal group, concentrated in the districts of Koraput of Odisha and Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh. [2]

Script

Kupia language is usually written in Odia or Telugu script depending on the region where the community lives. [2] A new Kupia alphabet was also created by Sathupati Prasanna Sree.

The Jalaput Dam is a hydroelectric dam built on the Machkund River, a tributary of the Godavari River in India which rises in the Mudugal hills of Alluri Sitharama Raju district District and nearby Ondra Gadda it becomes the boundary between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. This Dam is the most ignored one in India, currently, it is in dilapidated condition. For over 48 km the river runs nearly north along a meandering course through the Padwa Valley. About 48 km south of Jeypore, it winds westward along the edge of the Plateau and then suddenly tums at a short angle to the south-west down a steep descent popularly known as Duduma Falls.

Chuhra is a Dalit caste in India and Pakistan. Populated regions include the Punjab region of India and Pakistan, as well as Uttar Pradesh in India, among other parts of the Indian subcontinent such as southern India. Their traditional occupation is sweeping, a "polluting" occupation that caused them to be considered untouchables in the Hindu caste system.

The Odia (ଓଡ଼ିଆ), formerly spelled Oriya, is an Indo-Aryan ethnic group native to the Indian state of Odisha who speak Odia language. They constitute a majority in the eastern coastal state, with significant minority populations in neighboring Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

The Kalinga script or Southern Nagari is a Brahmic script used in the region of what is now modern-day Odisha, India and was primarily used to write Odia language in the inscriptions of the kingdom of Kalinga which was under the reign of early Eastern Ganga dynasty. By the 12th century, with the defeat of the Somavamshi dynasty by the Eastern Ganga monarch Anantavarman Chodaganga and the subsequent reunification of the Trikalinga(the three regions of ancient Odra- Kalinga, Utkala and Dakshina Koshala) region, the Kalinga script got replaced by the Siddhaṃ script-derived Gaudi or Proto-Oriya script which became the ancestor of the modern Odia script.

Patrapur is one of the block headquarters of Ganjam district situated south of Odisha bordering to Andhra Pradesh. It is located southwest of Berhampur and southeast of Chikiti. It is one of the biggest villages of Ganjam district, having more than 15,000 people.

Amos Sutton was an English General Baptist missionary to Odisha, India, and hymn writer. He published the first English grammar of the Odia language (1831), a History (1839), and Geography (1840), then the first dictionary of Odia (1841–43), as well as a translation of the Bible (1842–45). He also composed a hymn to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne": "Hail, sweetest, dearest tie, that binds" and wrote a History of the mission to Orissa: the site of the temple of Juggernaut (1835).

Utkala Sammilani is an Indian social and cultural organization. It was founded in Odisha in 1903 by Madhusudan Das and continues in present times.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Vikram Deo Verma</span> 25th Maharajah of Jeypore

Maharajah Vikram Dev IV or Vikram Deo Varma was the 25th king of the Suryavansh dynasty that ruled over Kalinga and later Jeypore Samasthanam under the British. A patron of the arts and literature, he was also a writer and playwright himself. He was also an administrator, a magistrate for Visakhapatnam by the Madras government in 1914 and involved in the delineation of the state of Odisha.

Desia, also Desiya or Desia Odia or Koraputi Odia or Southwestern Odia, is an Indo-Aryan language variety spoken in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri districts and little parts of Kalahandi district of Odisha and in the hilly regions of Vishakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts of Andhra Pradesh. The variant spoken in Koraput is called Koraputia.

Alluri Sitharama Raju district, also known as Alluri district and by its initials as ASR district, is a district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The headquarters of the district is located at Paderu. Named after Alluri Sitarama Raju, a revolutionary in the Indian independence movement who hailed from the region, the district was effective since 4 April 2022 and became one of the twenty-six districts in the state. The district famous for its scenic beauty, falls in the lap of Eastern Ghats.
