Ethnic townships (officially translated as nationality townships [1] ), ethnic towns, and ethnic sums are fourth-level administrative units designated for ethnic minorities of political divisions in the People's Republic of China. They are not considered to be autonomous and do not enjoy the laws pertaining to the larger ethnic autonomous areas such as autonomous regions, autonomous prefectures, autonomous counties, and autonomous banners.

The only ethnic sum is the Evenk Ethnic Sum in Old Barag Banner, Inner Mongolia.

Within the Tibet Autonomous Region there are eight ethnic townships (མི་རིགས་ཤང་ mi-rigs shang 民族乡 mínzúxiāng), five belonging to the Monpa ethnicity (མོན་པ་/ mon pa /门巴/ Ménbā) and three belonging to the Lhopa ethnicity (ལྷོ་པ་/ lho-pa/ 珞巴/ Luòbā).

Five of these are under Shannan/Lhokha Prefecture:

Suining County is a county in the Province of Hunan, China, it is under the administration of Shaoyang City. Located in the southwest of the province, the county is bordered to the north by Dongkou County, to the west by Huitong and Jingzhou Counties, to the southwest by Tongdao County, to the southeast by Chengbu County, to the east by Wugang City. Suining County covers 2,917 km2 (1,126 sq mi), as of 2015, it had a registered population of 387,800 and a permanent resident population of 356,800. The county has nine towns and eight townships under its jurisdiction, the county seat is the town of Changpu (长铺镇).

The Yunnan Ethnic Village is an ethnographic village and theme park that displays the various folklore, culture, and architecture of 26 ethnic groups in Yunnan Province, China. The park's major goal is mainly to display some aspects of Yunnan's ethnicity, cultural diversity, and heritage. Located in the southwest suburbs of Kunming next to Dianchi lake, Yunnan Ethnic Village covers an area of 89 hectares including 31 hectares of water. It is classified as a AAAA-class tourist attraction.

Dankou is a rural town in Chengbu Miao Autonomous County, Hunan, China. As of the 2015 census it had a population of 25,800 and an area of 286-square-kilometre (110 sq mi). It is surrounded by Guanxia Town of Suining County on the north, Chang'anying Town on the west, Dingping Township on the south, and Rulin Town on the easth. Because there are many bamboos and trees in the town, it is hailed as "the home of bamboo and wood" (竹木之乡).
