Gandalf Big Naturals is an Internet meme originating on Tumblr revolving around manipulated images of the Lord of the Rings character Gandalf (as portrayed by Ian McKellen) with large breasts.
The meme originated in December 2021 as a set of three images—labeled "Gandalf Big Naturals"—depicting Ian McKellan as Gandalf with large breasts and exposed cleavage. The images were posted to Tumblr by becca.teeth, who stated that they created the images while in a delirious state due to recovering from anesthesia from top surgery. [1] The meme makes use of the slang term "big naturals ", referring to large breasts that have not undergone surgical augmentation.[ citation needed ]
According to becca.teeth, they were watching The Lord of the Rings film series with their fiancé after the surgery and thought that it would be "cool" if Gandalf had large breasts. They described the Gandalf Big Naturals meme as "an angel, or some kind of final parting gift" from their own breasts. [1]
Gandalf Big Naturals became widely popular and was interpreted as a piece of queer art. [1] The original images inspired other artists to create fan art of Gandalf with breasts and spawned edits of other pieces of Lord of the Rings media, such as the 1978 film. Gondor and its allies send a small army ostensibly to challenge Sauron at the entrance to his land of Mordor; he supposes that they have with them the One Ring and mean to use it to defeat him. The Dark Urge is a character from the 2023 role-playing video game Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Studios, a title set in the Forgotten Realms universe of Dungeons & Dragons. First introduced at the conclusion of tie-in community-based browser game Blood in Baldur's Gate, the character was designated as an "Origin" character that the player can select to play through the game from their perspective. Unlike other "Origin" characters, the Dark Urge's appearance, voice, gender, and class can be customized if the player chooses. By default, the Dark Urge is a male White Dragonborn Sorcerer, voiced by Neil Roberts.
In 2015 and 2016, a controversy occurred on Facebook and Tumblr concerning Ender Darling, a neopagan witch who took human bones from a cemetery in New Orleans for use in rituals. Darling posted to the Facebook group Queer Witch Collective in December 2015, saying they had been collecting bones for use in witchcraft from a "poor man's graveyard" where bones often rose to the surface, and offering to sell bones to others for the cost of shipping. Some fellow witches accused Darling of desecrating graves and took issue with the bones' apparent source, Holt Cemetery—a potter's field where most burials are of poor people of color. Screenshots of the argument were posted elsewhere on Facebook, making their way to local news and then to Tumblr, where one user made a call-out post that garnered over 31,000 notes and led to discourse about racism and classism, which was dubbed Boneghazi or bones discourse. Meta-commentary on Tumblr included both humorous memes and criticism of the discourse's focus on identity politics.
