An alley or alleyway is a narrow lane, path, or passageway, often reserved for pedestrians, which usually runs between, behind, or within buildings in the older parts of towns and cities. It is also a rear access or service road, or a path, walk, or avenue in a park or garden.

This is achieved as a diagonal series of horizontal platforms called steps which enable passage to the other level by stepping from one to another step in turn. Steps are very typically rectangular. Gurabo is a town and municipality in eastern Puerto Rico. It is located in the central eastern region, north of San Lorenzo; south of Trujillo Alto; east of Caguas; and west of Carolina and Juncos. Coogan's Bluff is a promontory near the western shore of the Harlem River in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan in New York City. Its boundaries extend approximately from 155th Street and the Macombs Dam Bridge viaduct to 160th Street, between Edgecombe Avenue and the river. A deep escarpment descends 175 feet (53 m) from Edgecombe Avenue to the river, creating a sheltered area between the bluff and river known as Coogan's Hollow. From 1890 to 1964, the hollow was home to the Polo Grounds sports stadium.
The 170th Street station is a local station on the IRT Jerome Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of 170th Street and Jerome Avenue in the Bronx, it is served by the 4 train at all times. This station was constructed by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company as part of the Dual Contracts and opened in 1917.
Highbridge is a residential neighborhood geographically located in the central-west section of the Bronx, New York City. Its boundaries, starting from the north and moving clockwise, are the Cross-Bronx Expressway to the north, Jerome Avenue to the east, Macombs Dam Bridge to the south, and the Harlem River to the west. Ogden Avenue is the primary thoroughfare through Highbridge.
Filbert Street is an east–west street on the north side of San Francisco, California. Its western end is at Lyon Street on the east edge of The Presidio and, spanning eastward, it crosses several large thoroughfares, including Van Ness Avenue and Columbus Avenue, and ends its drivable length at Kearny Street, on Telegraph Hill below Coit Tower. East of Kearny Street, it becomes a series of pedestrian step streets and walkways, with the exception of a small parking area west of Sansome Street. The most notable section of this part of Filbert Street is the Filbert Street Steps, running down the east side of Telegraph Hill. The easternmost length of Filbert Street is a walkway through Levi's Plaza ending at The Embarcadero.

The Scala Sancta are a set of 28 white marble steps located in an edifice on extraterritorial property of the Holy See in Rome, Italy proximate to the Archbasilica of Saint John in Laterano. Officially, the edifice is titled the Pontifical Sanctuary of the Holy Stairs, and incorporates part of the old Papal Lateran Palace. Replica stairs flank the original staircase, which may only be climbed on one's knees. The Holy Stairs lead to the Church of Saint Lawrence in Palatio ad Sancta Sanctorum or simply the "Sancta Sanctorum", which was the personal chapel of the early Popes.

Polanco metro station is a station of the Mexico City Metro in Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico City. It is an underground station with two side platforms served by Line 7 between San Joaquín and Auditorio metro stations. It serves the colonia (neighborhood) of Polanco and it is named after it; the pictogram depicts the clock tower located at the nearby Lincoln Park. Polanco station opened on 20 December 1984 with service northward toward Tacuba station and southward toward Auditorio station. In 2019, the station had an average daily ridership of 35,694 passengers, making it the 24th busiest station in the network and the third busiest of the line.

The "Joker Stairs" is the colloquial name for a step street connecting Shakespeare and Anderson avenues at West 167th Street in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx in New York City. Located near the 167th Street station on the New York City Subway's 4 train, the stairs served as one of the filming locations for the 2019 film Joker. The stairs also served as a filming location in April 2023 for its forthcoming sequel Joker: Folie à Deux.
El Cerro is a residential district or sector of the barrio Gurabo Pueblo, in the municipality of Gurabo, Puerto Rico. The district is located on a steep hill just south of the main town square of Gurabo. One of the most distinctive features of El Cerro are its step streets, pedestrian streets that consists of colorfully painted stairs. These step streets give Gurabo one of its nicknames Pueblo de las Escaleras. El Cerro contains 5 step streets: Zoilo Rivera Morales Street, Zenón Vázquez Street, Matías González García Street, Santiago Street, and Este Street.
