The flag of El Salvador features a horizontal triband of cobalt blue-white-cobalt blue, with the coat of arms centered and entirely contained within the central white stripe. This design of a triband of blue-white-blue is commonly used among Central American countries. El Salvador's flag is one of few that currently use the color purple, due to the rainbow in its coat of arms.

Alianza Fútbol Club, also known simply as Alianza, is a professional football club based in San Salvador, El Salvador. Founded in 1958, Alianza was almost immediately successful, winning its first championships in the 1966 and 1967 Salvadoran seasons. Even more significantly, Alianza was the first Central American and Salvadoran club to win the CONCACAF Champions' Cup in 1967, and is currently one of only three Salvadoran teams to have done so.

Fuerte San Francisco is a football club based in San Francisco Gotera, El Salvador that plays in the Primera División, the top flight of Salvadoran football. Nicknamed Los Comandos Azules, the club has won two league second division titles, Seven third divisions titles and one promotional titles.

Club Deportivo Topiltzín are a Salvadoran professional football club based at Jiquilisco, Usulután in El Salvador.

El Roble de Ilobasco were a Salvadoran football club based in Ilobasco in the Cabañas department of El Salvador.

El Salvador first competed in the Olympic Games at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico. It has participated in every Games of the Olympiad since that time, excluding those held in 1976 and 1980, when the nation joined the American-led boycott in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. They have never competed in the Olympic Winter Games. El Salvador has not earned a medal at any Olympic Games.

Santa Tecla Fútbol Club is a Salvadoran multi-sport club based in Santa Tecla since being formed in 2007. Although they compete in a number of different sports, Santa Tecla is mostly known for its professional association football team. The club has competed in Primera División de Fútbol de El Salvador, the nation's top tier, since being promoted there for Apertura 2012. Santa Tecla was founded in 2007, and currently plays its home games at the 10,000 capacity soccer-specific Estadio Las Delicias.
