Alexis Argüello Nicaraguan boxer

Alexis Argüello was a Nicaraguan professional boxer who competed from 1968 to 1995, and later became a politician. He was a three-weight world champion, having held the WBA featherweight title from 1974 to 1976; the WBC super featherweight title from 1978 to 1980; and the WBC lightweight title from 1981 to 1982. Additionally, he held the Ring magazine and lineal featherweight titles from 1975 to 1977; the Ring lightweight title from 1981 to 1982; and the lineal lightweight title in 1982. In his later career he challenged twice for light welterweight world titles, both times in famous fights against Aaron Pryor.

Managua Place in Nicaragua

Managua is the capital and largest city of Nicaragua, and the center of an eponymous department. Located on the southwestern shore of Lake Managua, it had an estimated population 1,042,641 in 2016 within the city's administrative limits and a population of 1,401,687 in the metropolitan area, which additionally includes the municipalities of Ciudad Sandino, El Crucero, Nindirí, Ticuantepe and Tipitapa.

Karl Malden American actor

Karl Malden was an American actor. He was primarily a character actor who "for more than 60 years brought an intelligent intensity and a homespun authenticity to roles in theater, film and television", especially in such classic films as A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) — for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor — On the Waterfront (1954), Pollyanna (1960), and One-Eyed Jacks (1961). Malden also played in high-profile Hollywood films such as Baby Doll (1956), The Hanging Tree (1959), How the West Was Won (1962), and Patton (1970). From 1972 to 1977, he portrayed Lt. Mike Stone in the television crime drama The Streets of San Francisco. He was later the spokesman for American Express. Film and culture critic Charles Champlin described Malden as "an Everyman, but one whose range moved easily up and down the levels of society and the IQ scale, from heroes to heavies and ordinary, decent guys just trying to get along", and at the time of his death, Malden was described as "one of the great character actors of his time" who created a number of "powerhouse performances on screen". Malden was also President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1989 to 1992.

Steve Brennan was an Irish-born American reporter, journalist and editor of The Hollywood Reporter, a major entertainment industry trade publication.

Jorge Enrique Adoum Ecuadorian writer

Jorge Enrique Adoumخورخي انريكي ادوم was an Ecuadorian writer, poet, politician, and diplomat. He was one of the major exponents of Latin American poetry. His work received such prestigious awards as the first Casa de las Américas Prize in Cuba, the most important honor in Latin American letters. Though hailed by Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda as the best poet of his generation in Latin America, Adoum’s work is unknown in the English-speaking world.

Alauddin Al-Azad Bangladeshi writer

Alauddin Al-Azad was a modern Bangladeshi author, novelist, and poet.

John Steven Barry was an American business executive who popularized WD-40, a water-displacing spray and solvent that had been created in the 1950s for use in the space program and spread its use in the consumer market.

James Forbes Chapin was an American jazz drummer and the author of books about jazz drumming. He was the author of several albums on jazz drumming, as well as 2 CDs entitled Jim Chapin: Songs, Solos, Stories. He was posthumously inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2011.

Robert Earl Hopkins was president of the Optical Society of America in 1973.

Brenda Joyce (actress) American film actress

Brenda Joyce was an American film actress.

John Bachar American rock climber

John Bachar was an American rock climber. Noted for his skill at free soloing, he died during a free solo climb. A fitness fanatic, he was the creator of the climbing training device known as the Bachar ladder.

Peter Blaker, Baron Blaker British politician

Peter Allan Renshaw Blaker, Baron Blaker, was an English Conservative politician.

Blackpool South (UK Parliament constituency) Parliamentary constituency in the United Kingdom, 1945 onwards

Blackpool South is a constituency in Lancashire, represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 1997 by Gordon Marsden of the Labour Party.
