Bruce Hamilton Hay was a Scottish international rugby union player.

British and Irish Lions rugby union team

The British & Irish Lions is a rugby union team selected from players eligible for any of the Home Nations – the national teams of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The Lions are a Test side, and generally select international players, but they can pick uncapped players available to any one of the four unions. The team currently tours every four years, with these rotating among Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. The most recent series, the 2017 series against New Zealand, was drawn 1-1.

Frederick Merkle Bayer was an emeritus curator of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, as well as a prominent marine biologist who specialized in the study of soft corals.

The National Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum administered by the Smithsonian Institution, located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., United States. It has free admission and is open 364 days a year. In 2016, with 7.1 million visitors, it was the fourth most visited museum in the world and the most visited natural-history museum in the world. Opened in 1910, the museum on the National Mall was one of the first Smithsonian buildings constructed exclusively to hold the national collections and research facilities. The main building has an overall area of 1,500,000 square feet (140,000 m2) with 325,000 square feet (30,200 m2) of exhibition and public space and houses over 1,000 employees.

Tex Coulter American and Canadian football player

DeWitt E. "Tex" Coulter was an American football offensive lineman in the National Football League for the New York Giants and in the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union for the Montreal Alouettes. Coulter attended the United States Military Academy, and besides football competed in the shot put.

John Burns Buxton was a New Zealand rugby union player. A flanker, Buxton represented Manawatu, Canterbury, Otago and Auckland at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, in 1955 and 1956. He played two games for the All Blacks, both of them test matches.

Violet Kazue de Cristoforo was a Japanese American poet, composer and translator of haiku. Her haiku reflected the time that she and her family spent in detention in Japanese internment camps during World War II. She wrote more than a dozen books of poetry during her lifetime. Her best known works are Poetic Reflections of the Tule Lake Internment Camp, 1944, which was written nearly 50 years after her detention. She was the editor of May Sky: There Is Always Tomorrow; An Anthology of Japanese American Concentration Camp Kaiko Haiku.

Kenneth R. Harding Sergeant at Arms of the US House of Representatives

Kenneth R. Harding served as Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives from October 1, 1972 until February 29, 1980.

Bob Burdick was a NASCAR driver from Omaha, Nebraska. He competed in fifteen Grand National Series events in his career. His win in Atlanta in 1961 made him the only Nebraska-born driver to win a race on the NASCAR circuit.

Chen Chi-li, nicknamed King Duck or Dry Duck, was a gangster from Taiwan, best known for heading the United Bamboo Gang. His murder of dissident journalist Henry Liu in Daly City, California, United States, in 1984 has been described by the Financial Times as "the most prominent example of the [Kuomintang]'s co-operation with gangsters in upholding its dictatorship".

Antonie Iorgovan was a Romanian jurist, professor and politician. He was a member of the Romanian Senate in the period 1990–92 and 2000–07, representing the Social Democratic Party. Between 1992 and 1996, he was also a judge on the Constitutional Court of Romania. His professional life before 1989 is completely unknown. Iorgovan was the lead author of the 1991 Constitution of Romania, which was subsequently revised in 2003. He died of a heart attack caused by terminal pancreatic cancer on 4 October 2007, at age 59.

Alexandra Boulat French photographer

Alexandra Boulat was a French photographer born in Paris. In 2001, she co-founded the VII Photo Agency. Her work has appeared in many magazines, including Time, Newsweek, Paris Match and National Geographic Magazine and she received numerous international awards.

Walter Kempowski German writer

Walter Kempowski was a German writer. Kempowski was known for his series of novels called German Chronicle and the monumental Echolot ("Sonar"), a collage of autobiographical reports, letters and other documents by contemporary witnesses of the Second World War.

Władysław Kopaliński Polish lexicographer, publisher, writer and translator

Władysław Kopaliński, was a Polish lexicographer, publisher, writer and translator. He was a prolific author and winner of numerous awards for his work.
