Carlos Aponte Benítez was a Colombian footballer. He competed for the Colombian national football team at the 1962 FIFA World Cup which was held in Chile.

Rolf Bae Norwegian Arctic adventurer and mountaineer

Rolf Bae was a Norwegian Arctic adventurer and mountaineer. Bae operated an adventure company called Fram, specializing in Arctic and Antarctic travel and survival courses.

2008 K2 disaster eleven mountaineers from international expeditions died on K2

The 2008 K2 disaster occurred on 1 August 2008, when 11 mountaineers from international expeditions died on K2, the second-highest mountain on Earth. Three others were seriously injured. The series of deaths, over the course of the Friday ascent and Saturday descent, was the worst single accident in the history of K2 mountaineering. Some of the specific details remain uncertain, with different plausible scenarios having been given about different climbers' timing and actions, when reported later via survivors' eyewitness accounts or via radio communications of climbers who died later in the course of events on K2 that day.

Fujio Akatsuka Japanese mangaka

Fujio Akatsuka was a pioneer Japanese artist of comical manga known as the Gag Manga King. His name at birth is 赤塚 藤雄, whose Japanese pronunciation is the same as 赤塚 不二夫.

Ballard Power Systems Inc. is a developer and manufacturer of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell products for markets such as heavy-duty motive, portable power, material handling as well as engineering services. Ballard has designed and shipped over 400 MW of fuel cell products to date.

Pérez Celis Argentine artist

Celis Pérez was an Argentine artist usually referred to as Pérez Celis. He earned international recognition for his paintings, sculptures, murals and engravings.

Anton Allemann Swiss footballer

Anton "Toni" Allemann was a Swiss footballer. He began his career at BSC Young Boys in Berne in 1957 at age 21, where he spent four seasons. In 1961, he joined Italian side A.C. Mantova, and later played for PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, and 1. FC Nürnberg in Germany, before returning home to Switzerland in 1966 to play for Grasshopper-Club Zürich.

The Philips Sport Vereniging, abbreviated as PSV and internationally known as PSV Eindhoven[ˌpeːjɛsˈfeː ˈɛi̯ntɦoːvə(n)] is a sports club from Eindhoven, Netherlands, that plays in the Eredivisie, the top tier in Dutch football. It is best known for its professional football department, which plays in the Eredivisie since its inception in 1956. Along with Ajax and Feyenoord, PSV is one of the country's "big three" clubs that have dominated the Eredivisie.

1. FC Nürnberg German association football club

1. Fußball-Club Nürnberg Verein für Leibesübungen e. V., often called 1. FC Nürnberg or simply Nürnberg, is a German association football club in Nuremberg, Bavaria, who currently compete in the Bundesliga. Founded in 1900, the club initially competed in the Southern German championship, winning their first title in 1916. Their first German championship was won in 1920. Before the inauguration of the Bundesliga in 1963, 1.FCN won a further 11 regional championships, including the Oberliga Süd formed in 1945, and were German champions another seven times. The club has won the Bundesliga once and the DFB-Pokal four times.

Alberto Achacaz Walakial was a Chilean citizen and one of the last full-blooded Kaweskars, who are also known as the Alacaluf, or Halakwulup. The Kaweskar are an indigenous Native American people who were once found in coastal regions of Chilean Patagonia. There are estimated to be only approximately a dozen full-blooded Kaweskars still living following Achacaz's death in 2008. However, there are no Kaweskar women of fertile age remaining, so the tribe appears to be headed for extinction.

Sally Insul was an American actress who appeared in over fifty different television and film roles during her career.

Peter Meyer Kass was an American theater actor and director who became a well-known teacher. His mentor Clifford Odets chose Kass to direct and develop The Country Girl before it opened on Broadway. Kass played Frank Elgin, the male lead.

Jaroslav Alexa was a Czech athlete. He competed in the men's high jump at the 1968 Summer Olympics and the 1972 Summer Olympics.

Bruno Dallansky was an Austrian actor who was best known for his roles on television and stage.

Robert Hazard, was an American musician known for composing and recording a demo of the song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", which Cyndi Lauper turned into a best-selling hit. He also composed the 1980s new wave and MTV hits, "Escalator of Life" and "Change Reaction", which he performed with his band, Robert Hazard and the Heroes, which was popular in the Philadelphia club scene during the 1980s. These songs appeared on the five song EP Robert Hazard, released in 1982. Hazard's first major-label album, Wing of Fire, was released by RCA Records in January 1984.
