Finnish Civil War 1918 civil war in Finland

The Finnish Civil War was a conflict for the leadership and control of Finland during the country's transition from a Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire to an independent state. The clashes took place in the context of the national, political, and social turmoil caused by World War I in Europe. The civil war was fought between the Reds, led by a section of the Social Democratic Party, and the Whites, conducted by the conservative-based Senate and the German Imperial Army. The paramilitary Red Guards, composed of industrial and agrarian workers, controlled the cities and industrial centres of southern Finland. The paramilitary White Guards, composed of farmers, along with middle-class and upper-class social strata, controlled rural central and northern Finland.

Dennis Ford was a South African swimmer. He competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics and the 1956 Summer Olympics.

Walter Haynes was an American steel guitarist and music producer who worked with such artists as Jimmy Dickens, Del Reeves, The Everly Brothers and Jeanne Pruett. He also co-wrote a number of songs including "Girl on the Billboard" - a song that became a No. 1 hit for Del Reeves in 1965. Haynes was a member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. At the time of his death at the age of 80 in Tyler, Texas, he had been teaching music lessons in Bullard, Texas.

Leonard Edward Bryant Andrews was an American publisher and art collector best known for his purchase of some 240 previously unknown Andrew Wyeth works of a woman known as Helga, including several nudes.

Inger Christensen poet, novelist, essayist, editor

Inger Christensen was a Danish poet, novelist, essayist and editor. She is considered the foremost Danish poetic experimentalist of her generation.

John DeFrancis was an American linguist, sinologist, author of Chinese language textbooks, lexicographer of Chinese dictionaries, and Professor Emeritus of Chinese Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

Kjelfrid Brusveen was a Norwegian cross country skier.

Charles Camilleri was a Maltese composer.

Leo Albert Jozef "Lei" Clijsters was a Belgian professional footballer, who played as a central defender.

Kim Clijsters Belgian tennis player

Kim Antonie Lode Clijsters is a Belgian former professional tennis player. Clijsters was a world No. 1 in both singles and doubles, having held both rankings simultaneously in 2003. She won a total of six Grand Slam tournament titles, four in singles and two in doubles.

Oswaldo Domingues was a Brazilian sprinter. He competed in the men's 100 metres at the 1936 Summer Olympics.

Griffin Bell American judge

Griffin Boyette Bell was the 72nd Attorney General of the United States and previously was a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Evangelos Depastas was a Greek athlete. He competed at the 1956 Summer Olympics and the 1960 Summer Olympics.

Sonny Fai New Zealand rugby league player

Sonny Fai was a professional rugby league footballer who played for the New Zealand Warriors.
