Keith Charles was an American theatre and television actor who was active from 1956 until he retired in 2003. His work included Broadway and off-Broadway roles, and television work, including recurring roles on eight soap operas. He starred in Breakfast with Les and Bess as Les.

Clay Schuette Felker was an American magazine editor and journalist who co-founded New York Magazine in 1968. He was known for bringing large numbers of journalists into the profession. The New York Times wrote in 1995, "Few journalists have left a more enduring imprint on late 20th-century journalism—an imprint that was unabashedly mimicked even as it was being mocked—than Clay Felker."

New York is an American biweekly magazine concerned with life, culture, politics, and style generally, and with a particular emphasis on New York City. Founded by Milton Glaser and Clay Felker in 1968 as a competitor to The New Yorker, it was brasher and less polite, and established itself as a cradle of New Journalism. Over time, it became more national in scope, publishing many noteworthy articles on American culture by writers such as Tom Wolfe, Jimmy Breslin, Nora Ephron, John Heilemann, Frank Rich, and Rebecca Traister.

(Hugh) Glencairn Balfour Paul was a British Arabist and diplomat. He served as the British Ambassador to Iraq, Jordan and Tunisia before becoming an academic at Exeter University.

Omar Caetano Otero was a Uruguayan footballer. He represented Uruguay at the 1966 FIFA World Cup and 1970 FIFA World Cup.

Jean-Pierre Muller was a French fencer. He competed in the team épée event at the 1952 Summer Olympics.

Daniel John "Dan" Cook, Jr. was a sports writer for the San Antonio Express-News, where he worked for 51 years. He is most notable for popularizing the phrase "the opera ain't over 'til the fat lady sings." Described as a "sports icon", Cook also was a sports anchor at San Antonio television station KENS from 1956 to 2000. For most of these years, the TV station was owned by the San Antonio Express-News.

The San Antonio Express-News is a daily newspaper in San Antonio, Texas. It is owned by the Hearst Corporation and has offices in San Antonio and Austin. The Express-News is the fourth largest newspaper in the state of Texas, with a daily circulation of nearly 100,000 copies in 2016.. The Express-News operates online both as Express-News and as MySA.

Ernie Cooksey British footballer

Ernest George Cooksey was an English footballer, who was a utility player. He started as a trainee with Colchester United, before joining non-League clubs Heybridge Swifts, Bishop's Stortford, Chesham United and Bromley. In 2002, he joined Southern Football League Premier Division side Crawley Town before turning professional with Football League side Oldham Athletic in 2003.

Thomas M. Disch Novelist, short story writer, poet

Thomas Michael Disch was an American science fiction author and poet. He won the Hugo Award for Best Related Book – previously called "Best Non-Fiction Book" – in 1999, and he had two other Hugo nominations and nine Nebula Award nominations to his credit, plus one win of the John W. Campbell Memorial Award, a Rhysling Award, and two Seiun Awards, among others.

<i>Camp Concentration</i> novel by Thomas M. Disch

Camp Concentration is a 1968 science fiction novel by American author Thomas M. Disch. After being serialized in New Worlds in 1967, it was published by Hart-Davis in the UK in 1968 and by Doubleday in the US in 1969. Translations have been published in Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Serbian.

<i>The Brave Little Toaster</i> (novel) novella by Thomas M. Disch

The Brave Little Toaster is a 1986 novel by American writer Thomas M. Disch, intended for children or, as put by the author, a "bedtime story for small appliances". The story centers on a group of five household appliances—a Tensor lamp, an electric blanket, a plastic AM alarm clock/radio, a Hoover vacuum cleaner and a Sunbeam toaster—on their quest to find their original owner referred to as the Master.

Hasan Doğan was the 37th president of the Turkish Football Federation. He died of a heart attack in Bodrum, a popular tourist destination in the southwest Turkish Riviera, where he was on vacation. He was incumbent for a relatively short period, beginning on 14 February 2008 and serving until his death on 5 July 2008.

René Harris Nauruan politician (1947-2008)

René Reynaldo Harris was President of the Republic of Nauru four times between 1999 and 2004. He was a Member of Parliament from 1977 to 2008.

Thích Huyền Quang Vietnamese Buddhist patriarch and activist

Thích Huyền Quang was a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, dissident and activist. At the time, he was the Patriarch of the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam, a currently banned organisation in his homeland. He was notable for his activism for human and religious rights in Vietnam.
