Begum Khaleda Zia is a Bangladeshi politician, who served as the prime minister of Bangladesh from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2006. She was the first female prime minister of Bangladesh and second female prime minister in the Muslim world, after Benazir Bhutto. She is the widow of one of the former president of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Jatiya Sangsad</span> Unicameral legislature of Bangladesh

The Jatiya Sangsad, often simply referred to as Sangsad and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called members of Parliament, or MPs. The 12th national parliamentary election was held on 7 January 2024. Elections to the body are held every five years, unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh. On 6 August 2024, President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved parliament after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina and ordered to form an interim government.

He previously served as the acting president during 1990–91 when Hussain Muhammad Ershad resigned from the post. He headed an interim government and held a general election in February 1991.

The Jatiya Party (Bengali: জাতীয় পার্টি, romanized: Jatiyo Party, lit.'National Party'; JaPa or JP(E)) is a political party in Bangladesh. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition.

The chief adviser of Bangladesh, officially Chief Adviser of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, is the chief executive of the caretaker and the interim government of Bangladesh, who serves as the head of government during the transition period between one elected government and another. With powers roughly equivalent to those of the prime minister of an elected government, their executive power is limited by the constitution. The chief adviser leads an advisory committee comprising several advisers, all of them selected from among politically neutral individuals to be acceptable to all major political parties. The office of the chief adviser is called Chief Adviser's Office.

Khawaja Shahabuddin was a politician of Kashmiri-Bengali descent from East Pakistan who was a minister in the Government of Pakistan and member of the Dhaka Nawab family. He was the younger brother of Khawaja Nazimuddin and the father of Bangladeshi Lieutenant-General Khwaja Wasiuddin.

Mohammed Zillur Rahman was a Bangladeshi politician who served as the President from 2009 until his death in 2013. He was also a senior presidium member of the Awami League. He is the third president of Bangladesh, after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman, to die in office, while being the first to die of natural causes.

Mohammad Abdul Hamid is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the 15th president of Bangladesh from 2013 to 2023. He was elected to his first term in April 2013, and re-elected in 2018. Previously, he served as the speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad from January 2009 to April 2013. He was the acting president after the death of Zillur Rahman in March 2013. He was the longest serving president in the history of Bangladesh.

Mercantile Bank PLC is a commercial bank headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Mohammed Nizamul Huq Nassim, was a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He is the incumbent Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council. He chaired the panel of three judges that presided over the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal until his resignation on 11 December 2012.

Masud Parvez is a Bangladeshi film actor, director,politician and producer. At present, he is a presidium member of the Jatiya Party. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in the film Ojante (1996), the Best Supporting Actor award for Sahoshi Manush Chai (2003) and the Bangladesh National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement 2019.

Obaidul Hassan is a jurist who briefly served as the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He was appointed as the chief justice on 12 September 2023 and served as 24th Chief justice of Bangladesh. He also served as the president of the Inquiry Committee, 2022 for the formation of Bangladesh Election Commission. He was forced to resign as Chief Justice in the aftermath of the Student–People's uprising.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Bangladeshi presidential election</span> Indirect election held in Bangladesh

The 2023 Bangladeshi presidential election was scheduled for Sunday, 19 February 2023 to elect the 22nd president of Bangladesh. However, nominations closed at noon on 12 February and the Awami League politician Mohammed Shahabuddin Chuppu, who had been nominated in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, was the only candidate nominated. On 13 February 2023, Shahabuddin was thus officially elected as the country's 22nd president as he was unopposed.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mohammed Shahabuddin</span> President of Bangladesh since 2023

Mohammed Shahabuddin, natively known as Chuppu, is a Bangladeshi jurist, civil servant and politician who has served as the 16th and current president of Bangladesh since 2023. He was elected unopposed in the 2023 presidential election as the nominee of the ruling Awami League. Prior to his presidency, Shahabuddin served as a district and sessions judge and a commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission from 2011 to 2016.

Elections in Bangladesh in 2023 include election to the office of the President of Bangladesh, by-elections to the Jatiya Sangsad, elections to the 5 (five) City Corporation, several municipalities and local bodies.

Nasimul Ghani is the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He previously served as secretary of the Public Department of the President's Office of President Mohammed Shahabuddin. He is the former private secretary of the speaker of the parliament Jamiruddin Sircar.
