Washington Park is a city owned and operated park located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. [1] Washington Park is both a historic site and a center for recreation; featuring the Old Stone House, a skatepark, basketball courts, a dog run, a multi-use synthetic turf field, and the J. J. Byrne Playground, a child's playground. [1] Washington Park also features a curated garden adjacent to the Old Stone House. [1]
J.J. Byrne Park was acquired by Parks in 1926, named for the late James J. Byrne by the Board of Aldermen in 1933. The Old Stone House of Gowanus is the reconstruction of the Vechte-Cortelyou house, originally built by Claes Arents Vechte in 1699. The original building was demolished around 1897; however, its foundations were rediscovered in 1930, at which time Borough President Byrne ordered its reconstruction using the original materials. The reconstruction was completed in 1934 and the building used as a park office and comfort station. [2]
The City of New York acquired the land for Terrapin Playground in 1948 by private purchase and condemnation. The playground opened in 1951 as J.H.S. 51 Playground because of the adjacent school which is now called William Alexander M.S. 51. [3] When the playground opened in 1951, Byrne Park was joined with it. [2]
In 1997, the park was renamed from J.H.S 51 Playground to Washington Park by Commissioner Henry Stern to honor one of the area’s most well known inhabitants. [3]
Terrapin Playground is the part of the park adjacent to M.S. 51. Revamped in 2008, Terrapin playground consists of handball courts, basketball courts, a skate area, and a dog run area. [3]

The Gardens at Washington Park adjacent to the Old Stone House were developed starting in 2004, under the direction of environmental educator Claudia Joseph. The gardens are co-designed with the local community. [4] The current Director of Gardens at the OSH is Sam Lewis. [5]

The Old Stone House is a house located in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. The Old Stone House is situated within the J. J. Byrne Playground, at Washington Park, on Third Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues. Gowanus Creek once ran nearby, but today the southeastern branch of the Gowanus Canal ends 1,300 feet (400 m) west of the house.

Travers Park is a 2-acre (8,100 m2) community park and playground in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York City. It is located between 77th and 78th Streets, on the north side of 34th Avenue. More than half of the park is occupied by an asphalt play area, with basketball and tennis courts. A children's playground with leaf-and-vine shaped spray shower occupies about one third of the park. There are also restroom facilities, handball courts, a small picnic area and a bicycle rack. In 2012, a segment of adjacent 78th Street was transformed in a permanent Street Plaza and the sports area of a nearby school was bought by New York City and added to the park. Although Travers Park is surrounded by trees, it does not have a lawn or any significant green space.
Playground 52 is a 1.8-acre (0.73 ha) playground at 681 Kelly Street in the Longwood neighborhood of the Bronx, in New York City. The playground features basketball and handball courts, bathrooms, a spray shower, and a skate park. as well as an amphitheater with a large dance floor.
The Battery, formerly known as Battery Park, is a 25-acre (10 ha) public park located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island in New York City facing New York Harbor. North Woods and North Meadow are two interconnected features in the northern section of Central Park, New York City, close to the neighborhoods of the Upper West Side and Harlem in Manhattan. The 90-acre (36 ha) North Woods, in the northwestern corner of the park, is a rugged woodland that contains a forest called the Ravine, as well as two water features called the Loch and the Pool. The western portion of the North Woods also includes Great Hill, the third highest point in Central Park. North Meadow, a recreation center and sports complex, is immediately southeast of the North Woods. Completed in the 1860s, North Woods and North Meadow were among the last parts of Central Park to be built.
The Dairy is a small building in Central Park in Manhattan, New York City, designed by the architect Calvert Vaux. The building was completed in 1871 as a restaurant but is now one of the park's five visitor centers managed by the Central Park Conservancy, and also contains a gift shop. The Dairy is located in the southern section of Central Park just south of the 65th Street transverse road. Adjacent features include the Central Park Carousel and the Heckscher Playground and Ballfields to the west, Sheep Meadow to the northwest, Central Park Mall to the north, Central Park Zoo to the east, The Pond and Hallett Nature Sanctuary to the southeast, and Wollman Rink to the south.
Calvert Vaux Park is an 85.53-acre (34.61 ha) public park in Gravesend, Brooklyn, in New York City. Created in 1934, it is composed of several disconnected sections along the Belt Parkway between Bay 44th and Bay 49th Streets. The peninsula upon which the park is located faces southwest into Gravesend Bay, immediately north of the Coney Island Creek. The park was expanded in the 1960s by waste from the construction of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, and was renamed after architect Calvert Vaux in 1998. It is operated by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, also known as NYC Parks.
Golconda Skate Park, known as Fat Kid, is a public skate park in the Downtown Brooklyn/Fort Greene neighborhoods of Brooklyn, New York City, that originated as a DIY skate spot. Built under the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, the 18,000 square foot professionally built skate park was completed in 2016 and sits within Golconda Playground.

Originally named the PS 81 Playground after a neighboring public school it was renamed in 1986 in honor of military veterans in the Vinmont neighborhood.
