The airport has one runway which is 850 metres (2,789 ft) long. [1] The terminal has traditional ticketing and baggage claim areas. Security checks often proceed on the tarmac, but can also be done inside the terminal in specially marked areas.

It is being built on 21 square kilometres (8.1 sq mi) of reclaimed land off the coast of Dalian. Expected to open in 2026, it is set to become the world's largest offshore airport.
