Lake Linganore is a community in Frederick County, in the U.S. state of Maryland, located just outside New Market. [1] The population was 12,351 as of the 2020 census. [2]
Lake Linganore consists of approximately 5,000 properties over 4,000 acres. [3] They are subdivided into 15 "villages" centered on four man-made lakes: Lake Anita Louise, Lake Merle, Lake Marion, and the centerpiece of the community, Lake Linganore, [4] a 210-acre (85 ha) reservoir built on Linganore Creek. The largest privately owned lake in the state, access to Lake Linganore is private, with amenities including two sand beaches ( Coldstream Beach, and Nightingale Beach) as well as over 30 miles of largely wooded trails. One-third of the community is reserved as open space. [3] The community is managed by the Lake Linganore Association. [3]

Constructed in 1968 as a "new town" by then developer Linganore Corporation (J. William Brosius and Louie J. Brosius), [5] Linganore was Frederick County's first planned unit development, with an emphasis on "building in sympathy with the land and preserving the natural environment." [3] The first villages featured small cottage-style homes on narrow, winding roads meant to blend into the landscape. Later construction focused on contemporary house styles—including townhouses and luxury estates—with wider streets and sidewalks. Construction is expected to be completed by 2030 with 6,400 homes. The town's population growth rate of 80.8% between 2000 and 2010 was the greatest of any town in western Anne Arundel County. Odenton is located west of Annapolis, south of Baltimore, and northeast of Washington, D.C..

The CDP is 17.70 square miles (45.8 km2) with the Potomac River as its southern border and the Muddy Branch as much of its eastern border. Seneca Creek borders portions of its north and west sides. The Travilah, North Potomac, and Germantown census-designated places are adjacent to it, as is the city of Gaithersburg. Land area for the CDP is 16.39 square miles (42.4 km2). As of the 2020 census, the Darnestown CDP had a population of 6,723, while the village of Darnestown is considerably smaller in size and population. Downtown Washington, D.C. is about 22 miles (35 km) to the southeast.
Lake Barcroft is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 9,558 at the 2010 census. It is also the name of the privately owned lake—part of the Cameron Run Watershed—around which this population is located. The lake is named for Dr. John W. The region is bounded by Preston County, West Virginia, to the west, the Mason–Dixon line (Pennsylvania) to the north, and the Potomac River and West Virginia to the south. Linganore Creek is a 13.5-mile-long (21.7 km) tributary of the Monocacy River in Frederick County, Maryland. The stream is formed from the confluence of the north and south forks of the Linganore, about 10 miles (16 km) east-northeast of the city of Frederick. The creek runs roughly southwest to the Monocacy River, which drains to the Potomac River. The watershed area of the creek is 83.1 square miles (215 km2). High water in the creek can result in flooding of Gas House Pike, an east–west road running between Monocacy Boulevard and Green Valley Road.

Tantallon is an unincorporated community in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States, and is a part of the census-designated place (CDP) of Fort Washington. The ZIP code for the community is 20744. Tantallon reported as a census-designated place by the U.S. Census Bureau in 1980. The population recorded was 9,945. Tantallon began in the 1960s as a country-club community of homes in a variety of architectural styles, and includes an 18-hole golf course, boat marina, and private swimming pool. It was named after Tantallon Castle in Scotland. Some homes have frontage on inlets of the Potomac River. It is governed by the Tantallon Citizens Association. The adjacent Hatton Point area, as well as nearby historic Fort Washington National Park, have very scenic views of the river. The bi-county parks commission's Harmony Hall Recreation Center, and metrobus commuter service to Washington, D.C., are nearby.
Spring Ridge is census-designated place (CDP) and suburban housing community in Frederick County, in the U.S. state of Maryland, just outside the city of Frederick. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 6,005. Before 2010, it was part of the Linganore-Bartonsville, Maryland census-designated place, which was split into three for the 2010 census.
