National Highway 42 (NH 42), (previously part of old National Highways 205 and 219), is a major National Highway in India, that runs in the states of Tamil Nadu Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka . [1] The northern terminal is at the National Highway 44 junction North of Anantapur inside Karnataka state and the southern terminal is at the National Highway 44 junction near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. [2] [3]

In Karnataka, it passes through Joladarashi chellakurki in bellary district.

In Andhra Pradesh, it passes through Anantapur, Kadiri, Madanapalle, Punganur, Palamaner, Venkatagirikota and Kuppam.

In Tamil Nadu, it connects Krishnagiri with its junction with NH 44.[ citation needed ]

The name of Kadiri has also some interesting past. The habitation was initially named as Khadripuram as ‘khadara’ plants were largely found in the surrounding forests and Khadri has later transformed as Kadiri.

Punganur is a city in Chittoor district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the headquarters of Punganur Mandel of Palamaner Revenue Division.

On 28 April 2010, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officially notified the rationalized number system of the national highway network in the Gazette of the Government of India. It is a systematic numbering scheme based on the orientation and the geographic location of the highway. This was adopted to ensure more flexibility and consistency in the numbering of existing and new national highways. According to the system all north–south oriented highway will have even numbers increasing from the east to the west. Similarly all east–west oriented highways will be odd numbered increasing from the north to the south of the country.

Krishnagiri is a city in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, and it serves as the administrative headquarters of Krishnagiri District formed in 2004. It is located at the bottom of Krishnadevaraya Hills, and the town is fully surrounded by hill rocks. It is located 250 km from Chennai, 45 km from Dharmapuri, and 90 km from Bengaluru. AH45 is a route of the National Highway Network of India, running 2,116 kilometres (1,315 mi) from in Kolkata to Krishnagiri. This route is composed of NH 16 and part of NH 48 from Chennai to Krishnagiri.
