National Highway 16 (NH 16) also known as Kolkata - Chennai Highway is a major National Highway in India that runs along east coast of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. [1] It was previously known as National Highway 5.

Contents

The northern terminal starts at Dankuni near Kolkata, West Bengal and the southern terminal ends at Nallur near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project to connect India's major cities. [2] [3]

Many cities and towns across the states of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu are connected by National Highway 16. NH 16 has a total length of 1,764 km (1,096 mi) and passes through the states of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. [4]

R Chennai Central railway station, Tamil Nadu. The train service is run by South Eastern Railway zone. The route travels across the eastern coast of India along the Bay of Bengal, called the Coromandel Coast, so giving the service its name.

National Highway 6 & Economic Corridor 1 (EC1), was a National Highway in India that has been separately designated under the new national highway numbering system. It was officially listed as running over 1,949 km (1,211 mi) from Surat to Kolkata. The route was also known as Asian Highway 46 (AH46) & Mumbai - Kolkata Highway and Great Eastern Highway.

AH45 is a route of the National Highway Network of India, running 2,116 kilometres (1,315 mi) from in Kolkata to Krishnagiri. This route is composed of NH 16 and part of NH 48 from Chennai to Krishnagiri.

The East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) is India’s first coastal economic corridor, covering 2500 km of India's coastline, to be developed with the help of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The ADB is to invest $500 million in infrastructural development of the project. Since late 2013, ADB has been supporting studies on transport corridors in India. Phase 1 of the ECEC is Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) which had been approved by the ADB board in October 2016. Howrah–Ernakulam Antyodaya Express is a superfast express train of the Indian Railways connecting Howrah Junction in Kolkata and Ernakulam Junction in Kochi. It is currently being operated with 22877/22878 train numbers on a weekly basis. It has been a lifeline for the migrant workers from Eastern India. National Highway 216A is a National Highway in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It starts from Rajamahendravaram, passes through Ravulapalem, Tanuku, Tadepalligudem, and terminates at Eluru.

National Highway 365BB is a national highway in India. It is a secondary route of National Highway 65. NH-365BB traverses the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in India. It starts at Suryapet and ends at Kovvur(Rajamahendravaram).Major cities on this route are Suryapet, Khammam and Rajamahendravaram.

Alipurduar – Secunderabad Express is an Indian Railways express train belonging to Northeast Frontier Railway, connecting Alipurduar Junction in West Bengal and Secunderabad in Hyderabad, Telangana. It currently operates on a once-weekly basis, with train numbers 05479 and 05480. The train passes through West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. The train starts from Alipurduar Junction at 22:30 on Friday and reaches Secunderabad at 16:15 on Sunday. During its journey the train travels through cities including Alipurduar, Siliguri, Malda, Kolkata, Kharagpur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Guntur and Hyderabad.

The Silchar-Coimbatore Superfast Express is a Superfast train of the Indian Railways belonging to Northeast Frontier Railway connecting Silchar in Assam and Coimbatore Junction in Tamil Nadu. It is currently being operated with 12516/12515 train numbers on once in week basis. The train passes through Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It starts from Silchar at 20:10 on Tuesday and reaches Coimbatore Junction at 12:00 on Friday. During its journey the train travels through major cities like Guwahati, Siliguri, Malda, Kolkata, Kharagpur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Chennai, Vellore, Salem, Erode and Coimbatore. It holds the record of 8th longest running train of Indian Railways that covers 3492 km. .
