National Highway 14 (NH 14) is a National Highway in India. [1] It runs from Morgram to Kharagpur in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Route

NH 14 originates from its junction with NH 12 at Morgram in Murshidabad district and passes through Lohapur (a little off the highway), Nalhati, Rampurhat, Mallarpur, Gonpur, Deucha, Mohammad Bazar, Tilpara Barrage across Mayurakshi River, Suri, Bakreswar Thermal Power Plant Township (a little off the highway), Dubrajpur, Bhimgara (all in Birbhum district), Pandabeswar, Haripur, Sonpur Bazari, Raniganj (all in Paschim Bardhaman district), Mejia, Durlabhpur, Gangajalghati, Amarkanan, Bankura, Bheduasole, Onda, Bishnupur (all in Bankura district), Garbeta, Chandrakona Road, Salboni, Midnapore (all in Paschim Medinipur district) before terminating at its junction with NH 16 near Kharagpur. [1] [2] This Highway has 2 other sub routes running through Birbhum District. One sub route starts from Dubrajpur and runs up till Panagarh via Joydev Kenduli Morh, Ilambazar, Guskara Morh & Kanksa, meeting with NH 19 at Panagarh. Another subroute starts from Suri & running via Purandarpur, Panrui, Sriniketan-Suiri Morh, Kamarpara, joins the earlier sub route at Ilambazar.

This town is named after the Shakti peeth Nalhateshwari temple, which according to the mythologies is situated where the "nala" i.e. throat of goddess Shakti had fallen. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India. Nalhati Municipality was established in 2000.

Ilambazar is a census town, with a police station, in Ilambazar CD block in Bolpur subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. A traditional weaving and trading centre it serves as a gateway to Birbhum district.

Panagarh–Morgram Highway runs from the junction with NH 19 at Panagarh Darjeeling Mor to NH 12 at Morgram. It passes through Kanksa, Ilambazar, Hetampur, Dubrajpur, Suri, Rampurhat, Nalhati and Lohapur. It is mostly a two lane highway with a total length of 171 kilometres (106 mi). Panagarh to Suri is 71 kilometres (44 mi) and Suri to Morgram is 100 kilometres (62 mi).Panagarh to Rampurhat distance is 120Km and Morgram to Rampurhat is 35 Km The Dubrajpur-Morgram sector is part of NH 14 and the Dubrajpur-Panagarh sector is part of SH 14.

The Bakreshwar River is a tributary of the Mayurakshi River. It originates in Santhal Parganas division of Jharkhand. It then flows through Birbhum district and meets the Kopai River. The combined waters flow into the Mayurakshi River in Murshidabad district.
