The Michelin Guides are a series of guide books that have been published by the French tire company Michelin since 1900. The Guide awards up to three Michelin stars for excellence to a select few restaurants in certain geographic areas. Michelin also publishes the Green Guides, a series of general guides to cities, regions, and countries.
COTE Korean Steakhouse is owned and operated by Simon Kim, a Korean-American restaurateur. The first location was opened in the Flatiron District of New York City in 2017 and has been awarded one Michelin star and several accolades from the James Beard Foundation. COTE is the only Michelin-starred Korean barbecue restaurant in the world. COTE's second location opened in Miami Design District in February, 2021.
Corey Lee is a Korean-American chef and restaurateur based in San Francisco. In 2014, his flagship restaurant, Benu, became the first in San Francisco to receive three Stars from the Michelin Guide, making Lee the first Korean chef to garner that accolade. In 2019, Benu made its debut on The World's 50 Best Restaurants. Lee is also a two-time James Beard Award winner and a goodwill ambassador to Seoul.
Simon Kim is an American restaurateur who owns and operates COTE Korean Steakhouse, a restaurant with locations in New York, Miami and Singapore. COTE New York has received a star from the Michelin Guide each year since opening in 2017. Kim's original “Korean Steakhouse” concept combines Korean barbecue with an American steakhouse experience and was inspired by his dual nationalities. Crain’s New York named Kim as one of their “40 Under 40” business leaders in 2019. In 2021, the National Restaurant Association, which represents 1 million restaurant and foodservice outlets and a workforce of 15.6 million employees, elected Kim to serve on their board.
Atomix is a Korean fine dining restaurant in NoMad, New York City. The restaurant consists of two floors; the main "Chef's Counter" downstairs and the bar upstairs each with their own separate prix-fixe menus with both being reservation only. Along with the Atomix, the same group NA-EUN/나은 Hospitality also runs the sister restaurant Atoboy along with Naro and Seoul Salon. The restaurant is known for its particularly difficult reservations among other NYC restaurants.
Jungsik is a fine dining restaurant chain, with branches in Seoul and New York City. The restaurant serves Korean cuisine and the New York City location has received 3 Michelin stars becoming the first Korean restaurant outside of South Korea to earn this accolade. They also became the first 3-star restaurant awarded in New York City since 2012.
Gaon, stylized as GAON, is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. As of 2023, it is the only South Korean restaurant to receive three Michelin stars for seven years in a row, from when the Michelin Guide Seoul first began to be published in 2016. In 2023, it went on an indefinite hiatus.
La Yeon (Korean: 라연) is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It is located on the 23rd floor of the hotel The Shilla Seoul. It received two Michelin stars in 2023. It was rated one of the top 200 global restaurants for the 2024 La Liste, and has remained in the top 500 restaurants since joining the list in 2017.
Alla Prima is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It was established in 2015. The restaurant was awarded one Michelin star for 2017 and 2018, and received two stars for 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
L'Amitié is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It specializes in French cuisine and first opened in 1999. It received one Michelin star for 2018 through 2024.
Mitou is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It first opened in 2018, and serves Japanese cuisine. It received one Michelin star from 2021 to 2023, and received two stars in 2024.
Onjium (Korean: 온지음) is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It serves a modern interpretation of Korean royal court cuisine. The restaurant first opened in May 2013. It received one Michelin star from 2020 through 2024. In 2024, it was ranked No. 21 of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants. On November 19, 2021, it opened a location in New York City at Genesis House. It launched a delivery brand called Onharu in 2021.
L'Amant Secret is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It is located in the L'Escape Hotel and first opened in 2018. It serves contemporary cuisine, with some of the dishes taking inspiration from Korean cuisine. It received one Michelin star from 2021 through 2024. The restaurant was listed among the top 1,000 global restaurants in La Liste.
Goryori Ken is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It serves contemporary Japanese cuisine. It opened in 2016, and received one Michelin Star beginning in 2022.
Solbam (Korean: 솔밤), stylized as SOLBAM, is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It first opened in 2021, and serves contemporary Korean cuisine. It received one Michelin Star from 2023 through 2024. The Korea Herald rated it the best restaurant in Seoul in 2022. The restaurant first opened in Gangnam District. It relocated to a different space and reopened on February 17, 2024.
Vinho (Korean: 빈호) is a fine dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It serves contemporary cuisine, with some dishes inspired by Korean cuisine. It first opened in May 2022, and received one Michelin star for 2024.
