Sports in Indonesia are popular from both the participation and spectating aspect. Some popular sports in Indonesia are football, futsal, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and the native Indonesian martial art pencak silat. Badminton is arguably Indonesia's most successful sport. Indonesia has won gold medals in badminton in every Olympic Games since the sport was first introduced to the Olympics in 1992, with the exception of two, at the 2012 and 2024 Summer Olympics, although in latter Games, Indonesia clinched a gold medal for the first time in sport climbing and weightlifting, respectively. Indonesia became the first grand winner in Badminton Olympics back then 1992. Indonesia regularly participates in the Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, and Sudirman Cup badminton championships, then became the first nation in history to complete those three titles. Indonesia also regularly participates in regional multi-events sport, such as the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games, and Olympic Games. Indonesia is one of the major sport powerhouses in the Southeast Asian region, winning the Southeast Asian Games 10 times since 1977.
The National Sports Committee of Indonesia is the sports governing body of Indonesia. It was founded in 1946 to unite the various satellite sports associations that was created within the regions of Indonesia. KONI is responsible on sport development as well as organising sporting events within Indonesian national boundary on national level. It organizes the Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON), multi-sport event held every four years where Indonesian athletes compete. It is the largest sporting event in Indonesia.
Giam Djie Kwie "Carl" Sugianto was an Indonesian weightlifter. He participated in the first Indonesian National Games, Pekan Olahraga Nasional, held in 1948 in Surakarta, where he won the gold medal. He then won gold medals in the next four Indonesian national weightlifting championships.
2008 Pekan Olahraga National or the Indonesia National Games XVII were a major multi-sport event in Indonesia which took place in Samarinda, East Kalimantan from 5–17 July 2008. A total of 7,946 athletes participated in the biggest-ever Pekan Olahraga Nasional and also the first on the island of Borneo. These games make Samarinda the second city to host Pekan Olahraga Nasional outside of the island of Java and Sumatra, after Makassar hosted the 1957 Pekan Olahraga Nasional.
2012 Pekan Olahraga Nasional or 2012 National Sports Week was a multi-sport event in Indonesia which was held in Riau from 9–20 September 2012. The previous edition was held in East Kalimantan. Thousands of athletes, officials, and journalists all across of Indonesian provinces participated to the game.
2016 Pekan Olahraga Nasional is the nineteenth edition of Pekan Olahraga Nasional. It was held in Bandung, West Java in 2016. It was the first time for Indonesia's third largest city of Bandung to host the games in more than forty years. Bandung hosted the fifth edition of Pekan Olahraga Nasional in 1961.
Indonesia competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom from July 27 to August 12, 2012. This was the nation's fourteenth appearance at the Olympics, having not competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of the United States boycott.
2004 Pekan Olahraga Nasional or the Pekan Olahraga Nasional XVI were a major multi-sport event in Indonesia which took place in Palembang, South Sumatra, from 2 September to 14 September 2004. A total of 607 events in 41 sports were competed among more than 5,500 athletes from 30 provinces, with the newly created province of Riau Islands only as observer and did not send any athletes. The games also staged 8 paralympic sports.
Ines Putri Tjiptadi Chandra is an Indonesian actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Indonesia 2012, the first Balinese ever to win the pageant. She represented Indonesia at the Miss World 2012 in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China. She also joined The Apartment in the 3rd Series of The Apartment. Ines Putri Tjiptadi Chandra and Jennifer Sumia were placed fifth overall, won one challenge, at the bottom two twice, and were eliminated in the Family Room Challenge.

Dian David Mickael Jacobs was an Indonesian athlete who competed in table tennis, primarily Class 10 para table tennis. Born in Ujung Pandang, he took up table tennis at the age of ten and rose quickly through national tournaments. He was training to play internationally by 2000, and in 2001 he won his first gold medal, at the SEATTA Championships in Singapore. After 2010 he competed in para table tennis, having spent most of his career competing against athletes with full functionality. Having lost control in his right hand, he decided to compete in the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, winning a bronze medal.

The Indonesian Athletics Association is the World Athletics recognized national governing body for the sport of athletics in Indonesia. They are a member of the World Athletics and the Asian Athletics Association. They are also a member of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) and the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI).
Maram Sudarmodjo was an Indonesian athlete and air force officer. He represented Indonesia in the men's high jump at the 1952 Summer Olympics, ranking 20th in the final standing. Previously he won a gold medal at the 1948 National Sports Week—Indonesia's national multi-sport event—and a bronze medal at the 1951 Asian Games. He later joined the Indonesian Air Force, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring.
Edgar Xavier Marvelo is a wushu taolu athlete from Indonesia. He is a three-time world champion as well as an Asian Games and SEA Games medalist.
The XX National Sports Week, also called PON XX Papua or PON Papua 2021, was the twentieth edition of the Indonesian National Sports Week, hosted by Papua. The event took place from 2 October to 15 October 2021. Lukas Enembe Stadium was the main venue for this edition, both the opening and closing ceremonies. This event was originally going to be held in 2020, but was postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic. This edition was the first PON held in the province, as well as in the Western New Guinea region and Eastern Indonesian Time areas.
Dadang Suprayogi was an Indonesian military officer and politician. He served in the Indonesian Army, primarily in Kodam III/Siliwangi, before he was appointed minister under Sukarno in 1958. He served as ministers of production, and later minister of public works, until 1966. Afterwards, he chaired the Audit Board of Indonesia for a time before participating and leading sports organizations in Indonesia, including heading the National Sports Committee of Indonesia and representing the country in the International Olympic Committee.
The Sepak Takraw Association of Indonesia, is the national governing body for sepaktakraw in Indonesia, officially found in 1971 with four founding regional affiliations, and had been becoming a member of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) since 1979. Originally, PSTI officially registered under the title ‘Persatuan Sepak Raga Seluruh Indonesia’ (PERSERAS), however, after the inception of the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation in 1982, which the PERSERAS was considered one of the founding members, the organization was renamed to ‘Persatuan Sepak Takraw Seluruh Indonesia’ (PERSETASI) and lastly, as known today, ‘Persatuan Sepak Takraw Indonesia’ (PSTI).
