For his efforts, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the government of India in 2000. Bhandari is currently Senior Bio-scientist and Director of Robotic Surgery Research & Education at the Vattikuti Urology Institute (VUI) in Detroit, MI. He was the Symposium coordinator of the International Robotic Urology Symposium. He also has been the CEO of the Vattikuti Foundation since 2010.
Arvinder Singh Soin is a surgeon and pioneer in the field of liver transplantation. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine, Medanta-The Medicity, Gurgaon, India. In 2010, Soin was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India for his contributions to the field of medicine. Dr. Soin is also Co-Founder & Director of Aayna Clinic, India's leading centre for cosmetic dermatology, with clinics across New Delhi and Punjab.
Jose Chacko Periappuram is an Indian cardiac surgeon and medical writer who performed the first successful heart transplant in the state of Kerala, India, as well as the first successful heart retransplant in the country. His other achievements include the first beating heart, awake bypass and total arterial revascularization surgeries in the state. Periappuram is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of London. He is the founder and Chairman of "Heart Care Foundation", a charitable trust that financially assists poor heart patients. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, in 2011.
A. G. K. Gokhale is an Indian Cardiac Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals. He is known for being the first to perform a successful human-to-human heart transplant and first successful lung transplant in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. He was honored by the Government of India with the Padma Sri award in 2016.
Padma Shri Dr. Jai Pal Singh was an Indian physician and educator. Singh obtained his bachelor’s medical degree in 1962 with a distinguished academic record from the third oldest medical college in India Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, India - the same institute from where his father graduated a generation ago. Active in sports and theater for the University of Agra, he was also an outstanding scholar and was at the top of his Bachelors and Masters examinations. After completing his post-graduate qualifications in Surgery in 1955 with outstanding honors, he worked for over 40 years in Delhi and its neighbouring regions. He was felicitated by his college as an Outstanding Alumni along with other prominent doctors in Delhi in 1988.
Jeewan Singh Titiyal is an Indian ophthalmologist, credited with the first live cornea transplant surgery by an Indian doctor. He was honoured by the Government of India, in 2014, by bestowing on him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his services to the field of medicine.
Sarbeswar Sahariah is an Indian nephrologist and organ transplant specialist, known for his expertise in renal and pancreatic transplantation. He was honoured by the Government of India, in 2014, by bestowing on him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the field of medicine. Saharaiah is credited with more than 3000 renal transplantations, which many consider, has made him the most prolific kidney transplant surgeon in the country.
Saumitra Rawat is an Indian surgical gastroenterologist and the head of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. The Government of India honoured him in 2015 with the award of Padma Shri.
Nagarur Gopinath was an Indian surgeon and one of the pioneers of cardiothoracic surgery in India. He is credited with the first successful performance of open heart surgery in India which he performed in 1962. He served as the honorary surgeon to two Presidents of India and was a recipient of the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1974 and Dr. B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian medical award in 1978 from the Government of India.
Samiran Nundy is an Indian gastrointestinal surgeon, medical academic, writer and the former head of the department of gastrointestinal surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He is a former member of the faculty at the Cambridge University, London University and Harvard University, and is the founder editor of the National Medical Journal of India and Tropical Gastroenterology. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1985.
Santosh Kumar Kackar is an Indian otorhynolaryngologist and a former director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. He graduated in medicine in 1960 and completed his post graduate degree (MS) in Otorhynolaryngology from the present day King George's Medical University, Lucknow, in 1963 to start his medical practice. He also secured the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of London in 1968.
Noshir Hormasji Antia (1922–2007) was an Indian plastic surgeon and social worker, known for his pioneering contributions to the treatment and rehabilitation of people afflicted with leprosy. He was the founder of three notable non governmental organizations, Foundation for Research in Community Health (FRCH), Foundation for Medical Research (FMR) and the National Society for Equal Opportunities for the Handicapped (NASEOH), all working in the field of rehabilitation of patients, cured or otherwise. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 1990.
Keiki R. Mehta, an Indian ophthalmologist, medical researcher and writer, is considered by many as the father of Phacoemulsification in India. He is the Chief Surgical and Medical Director at Mehta International Eye Institute, a Mumbai-based specialty eye hospital founded by him. He is known to be the first surgeon to perform a Radial keratotomy in India and is credited with the development of the first soft eye implant in the world, and the Keiki Mehta BP Valve Glaucoma Shunt, a medical implant used in the treatment of neovascular‚ congenital and uveitic glaucoma. He is a recipient of several honours including the Grand Honors Award of the National Eye Research Foundation, Chicago and the Triple Ribbon Award of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to Medicine.
Lakhumal Hiranand Hiranandani (1917–2013) was an Indian otorhinolaryngologist, social activist and philanthropist, known for pioneering several surgical procedures which later came to be known as Dr. Hiranandani's Operations. He was the founder chairman of Hiranandani Foundation Trust which runs two schools in India and was reported to have been active in the social movement against organ trade in India. He was a recipient of the Golden Award of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, the first Indian and the fifth overall to receive the honour. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1972, for his contributions to medicine and society.
Gopi Chand Mannam is an Indian cardiothoracic surgeon and the chief cardothoracic surgeon at Star Hospitals, Hyderabad, known for the performance of over 3,000 pediatric heart surgeries. After graduating from Guntur Medical College in 1981, he worked in Jamaica for two years at Victoria Jubilee Hospital, Kingston and Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, Westmoreland, before moving to UK where he secured Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1986, followed by another Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 1987. He worked in the UK for five years at the end of which he secured the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of London before returning to India 1994 to join the Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad as a senior consultant in cardiothoracic surgery.

Gopal Krishna Vishwakarma, more popularly known as G K Vishwakarma, was an eminent orthopedic surgeon, academician and public health administrator. He was the Director General of Health Services from October 1986 to his retirement in October 1992. He was awarded the prestigious Silver Jubilee Award (1983) and the Dr. B. C. Roy Award by Medical Council of India, The Government of India, in recognition of his contributions to the field of medicine and public health honored him with the Padma Shri (1985) one of India's highest civilian awards in India.
Giriraj Singh Bora is an Indian liver transplant surgeon. He is the Founder member of the Liver transplant Society of India. Bora was the first surgeon to successfully transplant the liver in Rajasthan. He carried out the first deceased donor and the first living donor liver transplants in Rajasthan and has been instrumental in starting a liver transplant program in the region. He currently serves as the joint director of Liver Transplantation and senior consultant of GI Surgery at Artemis Hospital.
