Prakash Nanalal Kothari is an Indian medical doctor and the Head of the Department of Sexual Medicine at the King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, Mumbai. [1] [2] [3] A graduate of the Mumbai University, [2] Kothari is credited with several books and articles on sexology. [1] The World Association of Sexology (WAS) selected him as the Man of the Year in 1989. [1] He was honored by the Government of India, in 2002, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri. [4] He has also collaborated with a condom brand from India to spread the awareness about sexual health and well-being.
Vishwanath Patekar, better known as Nana Patekar, is an Indian actor, film maker, and a former Indian Territorial Army officer, mainly working in Hindi and Marathi cinema. D. S. Rana is an Indian nephrologist and the Chairman of the Department of Nephrology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, known for his proficiency in renal transplant procedures. Born in Dasmal, Hamirpur in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, he graduated in medicine from the Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla and did his advanced training in clinical nephrology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. Parvati Education and Health Society, an organization founded by Rana operates a small 5-bedded hospital in his native village of Dasmal for the rural poor. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2009, for his contributions to Medicine. He is the first Himachal Pradesh resident awarded Padma Shri.
Thanikachalam Sadagopan is an Indian cardiologist, medical academic, and former Vice-Chancellor at the Sri Ramachandra University. He is the chairman and director of the Cardiac Care Centre at Sri Ramachandra University and an adjunct professor at the Biomedical Engineering Group of the Department of Applied Mechanics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. He is known for research on preventive cardiology and has published several articles on the subject. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2009, for his contributions to Medicine.
Dr. Bhalchandra Nilkanth Purandare, was an Indian gynaecologist. He was the son of Dr. Nilkanth Anant Purandare. He was the director of the Dr. N.A. Purandare Medical Centre for Family Welfare and Research, Mumbai. He served as the president of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) from 1973 to 1976 and the Mumbai Obstetric and Gynecological Society (MOGS) from 1966 to 1968. He was an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (1961). The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1972, for his contributions to medicine. His brother Dr. Vithal N. Purandare was also an acclaimed obstetrician and gynaecologist, renowned for his surgical prowess. He served as President of the Mumbai Obstetrics and Gynecology society(1973–1975) and FOGSI President in 1981. Their nephew Dr. C. N. Purandare, is a prominent gynaecologist and an ex President of FIGO.
Shiv Kumar Sarin is an Indian physician; a hepatologist and, gastroenterologist. Under of Delhi Government, he set up the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS); the largest liver hospital and a deemed Liver University, and a WHO Centre. He has received Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, The World Academy of Science Prize, and Padma Bhushan in 2007. He served as Chairman Board of Governors of Medical Council of India and shaped the New Medical Education Vision, including NEET and NEXT exams. He is a leader in science and served as the President of the Asian Pacific Association for study of Liver and is currently the President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) of India (2021-2024).
