Their team of doctors was reconstituted in 2008 with the joining of Jose Chacko Periappuram as the Head of Cardiac Surgery and Jacob Abraham as the head of Cardiac Anaesthesia. The present team was instrumental in performing the first total arterial bypass surgery on a beating heart and heart transplantation under Dr. Jose Chacko in the state of Kerala.

Burke has been recognized as one of the world's most innovative surgeons, and for his use of information technology to improve surgical outcomes.

Ramamurthi Balasubramaniam was an Indian neurosurgeon, author, editor, a pioneer in neurosurgery in India and often recognized as the Father of Neurosurgery of India. He set up the Department of Neurosurgery at the Government General Hospital, Chennai in 1950, the Department of Neurosurgery at the Madras Medical College and founded the Institute of Neurology, Madras in the 1970s. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan and the Dhanvantri Award for his contribution to the field of Neurosurgery in India. He is also a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of Madras Neuro Trust.
Jose Chacko Periappuram is an Indian cardiac surgeon and medical writer who performed the first successful heart transplant in the state of Kerala, India, as well as the first successful heart retransplant in the country. His other achievements include the first beating heart, awake bypass and total arterial revascularization surgeries in the state. Periappuram is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of London. He is the founder and chairman of "Heart Care Foundation", a charitable trust that financially assists poor heart patients. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, in 2011.
Charles D Fraser, Jr. is the medical director and surgeon of the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease at Dell Children's Medical Center. Formerly, Fraser was chief of congenital heart surgery and cardiac surgeon-in-charge at Texas Children's Hospital, the nation's largest pediatric hospital, served as chief of the Congenital Heart Surgery Division at Baylor College of Medicine, and director of the Adult Congenital Heart Surgery Program at the Texas Heart Institute.
Peter Allen was a Canadian surgeon who played a leading role in improving cardiac surgery techniques. Along with Dr. Philip Ashmore, Dr. W.G. (Bill) Trapp and Dr. Ross Robertson, he performed the first Open Heart Surgery in British Columbia on 29 October 1957 at Vancouver General Hospital, by closing an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) in 9 year old John Evans, using Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB).
Thayil John Cherian, popularly known as TJC, was a Malayali cardio-thoracic surgeon, from Kerala, India, known for his social commitment and compassionate approach. The government of India honoured him twice, first by awarding him the Padma Shri, in 1972 and, later in 1992, with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, for his services to the field of Medicine.
Panangipalli Venugopal was an Indian cardiovascular surgeon and hospital administrator from Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India who is widely regarded as a pioneer in cardiac surgery. The Government of India honored him, in 1998, with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, for his services to the field of Medicine.
Nagarur Gopinath was an Indian surgeon and one of the pioneers of cardiothoracic surgery in India. He is credited with the first successful performance of open heart surgery in India which he performed in 1962. He served as the honorary surgeon to two Presidents of India and was a recipient of the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1974 and Dr. B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian medical award in 1978 from the Government of India.
Stanley John was an Indian cardiothoracic surgeon, a former professor at the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and one of the pioneers of cardiothoracic surgery in India. He is reported to have performed the first surgical repairs of Ebstein's anomaly, Ruptured Sinus of Valsalva (RSOV) and Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) in India. He assisted in performing the first open heart surgery in India while working at CMCH. During his tenure of 25 years at the institution, he mentored several known surgeons such as V.V. Bashi, A. G. K. Gokhale, J. S. N. Murthy and Ganesh Kumar Mani. Later, John joined Yellamma Dasappa Hospital, Bengaluru at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1975. He served as the 13th President of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) between 1982 and 1983. John died on 23 February 2020, at the age of 87.
Gopi Chand Mannam is an Indian cardiothoracic surgeon and the chief cardiothoracic surgeon at Star Hospitals in Hyderabad, known for the performance of over 3,000 pediatric heart surgeries. After graduating from Guntur Medical College in 1981, he worked in Jamaica for two years at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston and Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital in Westmoreland, before moving to the UK where he secured a fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1986, followed by another fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 1987. He worked in the UK for five years, at the end of which he secured the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of London before returning to India in 1994 to join the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad as a senior consultant in cardiothoracic surgery.
Philip Caves (1940–1978) was a Northern Irish cardiothoracic surgeon. In 1972, while at Stanford University, he pioneered the use of the bioptome and transvenous endomyocardial biopsy in the early diagnosis of heart transplant rejection. It was considered the most significant advance in antirejection therapy of the time. Awarded the British American Research Fellowship in 1971, Caves worked with pioneering cardiothoracic surgeon Norman Shumway at Stanford and became staff surgeon leading the transplant programme by 1973. A year later he went to Edinburgh as a senior lecturer in cardiac surgery, where he became particularly interested in pediatric cardiac surgery.

He has been working as Director, Marian Cardiac Centre and Research Foundation, Pune, India, the firsts heart transplant centre in Pune, and Director of Heart and Lung Transplant Program Sahyadri Hospital, Pune, India.
