Sanjeev Bagai is an Indian pediatrician and nephrologist known for his proficiency in pediatric nephrology and neonatology. He is chairman of the Nephron Clinic in New Delhi, India. [1] [2] He was a visiting professor of pediatrics at Saint Justin Hospital in Canada and University of Toledo, Ohio [2] and has taught at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. [3]

Early life

Bagai was a gold medalist from Bombay University. He received the prestigious Sir Dorab Tata Merit Scholarship and Bombay University Merit Scholarship.

Career

Bagai was awarded him the Padma Shri for his contributions to medical science in 2008. [4] He received the Dr. B. C. Roy Award the same year. [5]

He completed his graduation, MBBS, from the prestigious GS Medical College & KEM Hospital Bombay; DCH, MD (Paed) from Asia’s largest Wadia children’s hospital Bombay; MNAMS(Paediatric); DNBE (Paediatric); MIPA(USA); Fellowship  in Prince Of Wales Children's Hospital, Australia-(FSCH); FIMSA; PhD(honris causa) (USA) -Doctorate in Paediatric Nephrology, National American University, Delaware, USA.

He been the Vice Chairman, CEO, Director and Dean of numerous leading large corporate hospitals chains which he created and commissioned. He has formerly been the Vice Chairman of the Manipal Hospital Dwarka, [2] New Delhi, Chief Executive Officer of Batra Hospital [6] and Medical Research Centre, New Delhi and also been the Chief Executive Officer of Radiant life Care, New Delhi. [2] He has also been the Medical Advisor and Director at Rockland Hospital, New Delhi.

Bagai has written several articles on health in Indian newspaper The Hindu, [7] [8] [9] and was also the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Pediatric Nephrology. He is also the author of a thesis on pediatric enuresis. [3] He has a series of publications in National & International Medical peer reviewed & indexed journals. He has helped numerous research protocols being developed and is on the expert research committees of various such associations.

Personal life

A born sportsman, he excelled in cricket, football, hockey and athletics. He was the school & college captain in cricket and was facilitated for exceptional sporting achievements in his college as the most outstanding Cricketer & Sportsman. He has represented state level in cricket.

Written work

Bagai has written several articles on health in several Indian newspapers [7] [8] [9] and was Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Pediatric Nephrology. He is also the author of a thesis on pediatric enuresis. [3] He has a series of publications in National & International Medical peer reviewed & indexed journals.

Anil Kumar Bhalla, also known as Dr. (Prof.) A K Bhalla is an Indian kidney transplant surgeon from Delhi, currently holds the position of Co-Chairman, Department of Nephrology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Bhalla was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010 for his contribution to the medical field science. The Padma Shri award is the fourth highest civilian honor in Republic of India. Dr. Bhalla also has served as a secretary of The Peritoneal Dialysis Society of India (PDSI) and he still holds the position of Chairperson of Industrial Liaison committee.

Dr. J. Chandra Mouli Sastry M.B.B.S. M.D. D.M. was an Indian nephrologist. He was founding professor of nephrology in Christian Medical College, Vellore.

Yash Gulati is an Indian orthopedic surgeon and the senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi. He specializes in joint replacement and spine surgeries and is a visiting consultant at RAK Hospital, Ras al-Khaimah. He is the youngest orthopedic surgeon to win the civilian honour of the Padma Shri.

Indu Bhushan Sinha was an Indian nephrologist and medical academic from the Indian state of Bihar. He is a former professor and head of the department of nephrology at Patna Medical College and Hospital. He has served as the editor of The Patna Journal of Medicine of the Indian Medical Association (1986–89) and is a life member of the Indian Society of Nephrology. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to medical science.

Institute of Child Health is a hospital in Kolkata, India offering post-graduate training in pediatrics under West Bengal University of Health Sciences. It has a distinction of being the first pediatric institute of India.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health is a premier organization promoting tertiary level Child Health Care services. Sudarshan Ballal is an Indian kidney transplant physician, nephrologist currently director of Manipal Institute of Nephrology and Urology, the chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of Manipal Hospitals Group and Senate Member of Manipal University, now known as Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).

Muthu Krishna Mani is an Indian nephrologist and a pioneer of nephrology in India. He is a former chief of nephrology department at Apollo Hospital, Chennai and is best known for treating Jayaprakash Narayan when the latter developed a renal disorder. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 1991. He is also a recipient of the Dhanvantari Award (2011) and the Ravindranath Tagore Award. He has published over 125 medical papers and the orations delivered by him include the 2018 Dr. Pathros Matthai Memorial Oration of the Indian Society of Nephrology.

Thomas Martin Barratt was a British paediatrician and professor of paediatric nephrology. Barratt was most notable for developing a specialist service for children with kidney diseases in Britain, bringing peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis, and later renal transplantation to ever younger children. Barratt was an early advocate for multidisciplinary care and developed a model that was later taken up by many other specialist centres across the world. His research led to a new treatments for many types of childhood kidney diseases., and for research into childhood Nephrotic syndrome and Hemolytic-uremic syndrome.

Gavin Cranston Arneil was a Scottish paediatric nephrologist. At the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, he established the first specialised unit in Britain for children with kidney disease.

Allison Audrey Eddy is a Canadian nephrologist. She was the inaugural Hudson Family Hospital Chair in Pediatric Medicine at British Columbia Children's Hospital and a clinician-scientist at the British Columbia Children's Hospital.
