The 2025 New York's 21st congressional district special election is an expected special election to choose a new member of the U.S. House of Representatives. The seat is expected to become vacant as Republican incumbent Elise Stefanik was chosen by president-elect Donald Trump to be his nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. [1] Stefanik was re-elected with 62.2% of the vote in 2024.

As chair of the House Republican Conference since 2021, she is the fourth-ranking House Republican. Stefanik's district covers most of the North Country and the Adirondack Mountains, some of the outer suburbs of Utica, and the Capital District in New York. In addition to being the first woman to occupy her House seat, Stefanik was 30 when first elected to the House in 2014, making her the youngest woman elected to Congress at the time.

Hochul defeated Jumaane Williams and Tom Suozzi in the Democratic primary for governor, while Delgado defeated Ana Maria Archila and Diana Reyna in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor.
