Cine Sony was an Italian free-to-air television channel owned by Sony Pictures Television.

Contents

The channel launched on 7 September 2017 and closed on 11 July 2019 after Sony Pictures Television sold off it and sister channel Pop's slots to Mediaset. Cine Sony's former slot would be used to launch a temporary channel called Mediaset Extra 2.

Programming

Owned by the Sony Pictures Television subsidiary of Sony Corporation, its programming consisted of documentaries, films, TV Series and shows produced from Sony Pictures Entertainment. The channel included contents from Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Classics. [1]

Sky Italia is a British satellite television platform operating in Italy by Sky, itself owned by Comcast. Sky Italia also broadcasts three national free-to-air television channels: TV8, Cielo and Sky TG24. As of 2018, following an agreement with Mediaset, Sky Italia also operates a series of subscription-based terrestrial channels offering sports, entertainment and movies. Sky Italia is also the major sports broadcaster in Italy.

Television in Italy was introduced in 1939, when the first experimental broadcasts began. However, this lasted for a very short time: when fascist Italy entered World War II in 1940 all transmissions were interrupted, and were resumed in earnest only nine years after the end of the conflict, on January 3, 1954.

Sony Channel is a general entertainment channel in the United Kingdom from Sony Pictures Television (SPT). The original launched on 7 April 2011. However, it was closed on 6 February 2018 and replaced by Sony Crime Channel. It was brought back for a second time on 10 September 2019 when it replaced True Entertainment. The current Sony Channel has different idents and programming than the former due to inheriting some programming from its predecessor True Entertainment.
