The Irish National Badminton Championships is a tournament organised to crown the best badminton players in Ireland.
The tournament started in 1912.

Bill O'Herlihy was an Irish television broadcaster and public relations executive. He was best known for his broadcasts for Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), primarily in politics and sport. A presenter for ten FIFA World Cups and ten Summer Olympic Games, O'Herlihy was noted for his "Okey doke" catchphrase. He retired from RTÉ following its coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. According to the Irish Examiner newspaper, "with the possible exception of Michael O'Hehir, Bill O'Herlihy was the broadcaster most universally welcome in Irish homes over the last 50 years."
The Ireland men's national field hockey team is organised by Hockey Ireland and represents both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in international men's field hockey competitions, including the Men's Hockey World Cup and the EuroHockey Nations Championship. They have previously competed in the Men's Intercontinental Cup, the Hockey Champions Challenge, the Men's FIH Hockey World League and the FIH Hockey Series. The team also competes at the Summer Olympics, though it officially only represents the Republic of Ireland then, while still selecting players from the entire island. On 26 January 1895 Ireland played in the first ever international field hockey match when they defeated Wales 3–0 in Rhyl. Ireland were finalists and silver medallists at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Ireland were also bronze medallists at the 2015 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship.

Neil McGee is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Gaoth Dobhair and, formerly, both the Donegal county team and the Ireland international rules football team.

Chloe Noelle Magee is an Irish professional badminton player. She represented her country at the Olympic Games for three consecutive times in 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, and 2016 Rio de Janeiro. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, she became the first Irish woman to win a badminton match at the Olympics. She has been described as "the poster girl for Irish badminton". Together with her brother Sam Magee, she clinched a bronze medal at the 2017 European Championships, became Ireland's first medal at the European Badminton Championship. The duo also captured the bronze medals at the 2015 and 2019 European Games.
Ryan McHugh is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Cill Chartha and the Donegal county team. He is the brother of Mark and the son of Martin.
Dermot Brick Molloy is a Gaelic footballer who plays forward for Naomh Conaill and also, formerly, for the Donegal county team.
Ireland competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's twenty-first appearance at the Summer Olympics, having attended every edition, either in its own right or as part of a Great Britain and Ireland team before 1924, with the exception of the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany.

Samuel Magee is a retired Irish badminton player. He won the 2009 European Junior Championships in the boys' doubles event at Milan, Italy with his partner Sylvain Grosjean of France. Sam Magee was a bronze medalists at the European Games in the mixed doubles event with his sister Chloe Magee in 2015 Baku and 2019 Minsk, also in the men's doubles with his brother Joshua Magee in 2015.
Jonathan Dolan is an Irish badminton player. As a junior player, he was a champion at the 2012 Bulgarian and Irish Junior International Open badminton competition (U-19). In the senior event, he clinched the men's doubles title at the 2013 Irish Future Series tournament with his partner Sam Magee. Dolan also won the Irish National Badminton Championships in the men's singles and doubles event in 2014 and 2019. He entered the Badminton Europe Centre of Excellence (CoE) program in February 2018.
Niall O'Donnell is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for St Eunan's and the Donegal county team.
