The Indian National Badminton Championships is a tournament organized to crown the best badminton players in India since 1934. Until the 1960s, foreign players could compete in the championships, which is why the winners' lists includes Malaysians and Danes (e.g. Erland Kops).
The championships are locally now referred to as the All Indian National Badminton Championships. The National titles in India are the following:
Taufik Hidayat is an Indonesian retired badminton player who is the current Deputy Minister for Youth and Sport of Indonesia. He is a former World, Olympic, two time Asian Games, and three time Asian champion, and the youngest world number one in the men's singles. Hidayat has won the Indonesia Open six times. He is considered one of the great men's single players in badminton history and has earned the nickname "Mr. Backhand".
Nikhil Kanetkar is an Indian former badminton player from Pune.
Aparna Popat is a former Indian badminton player. She was India's national champion for a record equaling nine times when she won all the senior national championships between 1997 and 2006.
Saina Nehwal is an Indian badminton player. A former world no. 1, she has won 24 international titles, which includes ten Superseries titles. Although she reached the world's 2nd in 2009, it was only in 2015 that she was able to attain the world no. 1 ranking, thereby becoming the only female player from India and thereafter the second Indian player – after Prakash Padukone – to achieve this feat. She has represented India three times in the Olympics, winning a bronze medal in her second appearance at London 2012.
Adrianti Firdasari is a retired Indonesian badminton player from Jaya Raya Jakarta club.
Wang Yihan is a retired Chinese professional badminton player and former women's singles world champion and Olympic silver medalist. Wang started her career with her coach Wang Pengren at only nine years of age. She was selected for the junior team in 2004, and after being promoted to the senior team in 2006, she began to shine in major tournaments. By October 2009 she was the top ranked Women's singles player in the world.
Rajah Menuri Venkata Gurusaidutt, known as just Gurusai Dutt, to RMV Bharadwaj and RM Anjana is a badminton player from India. He trains at the Hyderabad's Gopichand Badminton Academy. He won the gold medal at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games and the bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, popularly known as PV Sindhu, is an Indian badminton player. Considered one of India's most successful sportspersons, Sindhu has won medals at various tournaments such as the Olympics and on the BWF circuit, including a gold at the 2019 World Championships. She is the first and only Indian to become the badminton world champion and only the second individual athlete from India to win two consecutive medals at the Olympic Games. She rose to a career-high world ranking of No. 2 in April 2017.
Christopher Thomas Adcock is a retired English badminton player. Adcock is currently sponsored by Yonex and YC Sports and plays for the University of Nottingham-based NBL team. He entered the National team in 2006, and later won the boys' doubles and mixed team titles at the 2007 European Junior Championships. He was a World Championships medalists winning a silver in 2011 with Imogen Bankier and a bronze in 2017 with Gabby Adcock. Together with Gabby, he also won a silver medal at the 2007 World Junior Championships, and then claimed the gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and 2018; and at the European Championships in 2017 and 2018.
Badminton is a popular sport in India. It is managed by the Badminton Association of India. Indian shuttlers Prakash Padukone, Srikanth Kidambi, Jwala Gutta, Saina Nehwal, P. V. Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, H. S. Prannoy, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have all been ranked in the top ten.
Bhamidipati Sai Praneeth is an Indian former badminton player. He became the first Indian male shuttler in 36 years to win a bronze medal in the BWF World Championships in 2019 after Prakash Padukone in 1983. Sai Praneeth was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2019. His parents are Seshadri Deekshitulu and Madhavi Latha of Palakollu, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. His maternal aunt was a national level badminton player.
The Syed Modi International Badminton Championships is an international badminton tournament, which is held annually in India.
Aprilia Yuswandari is a badminton player from Indonesia. She was part of the Indonesia junior team that won the bronze medal at the 2006 Asian Junior Championships. Yuswandari who trained at the Pusdiklat Semen Gresik selected to join the national team in 2006. In 2010, she joined the Asian Games squad that won the women's team bronze after defeated by the Thai team in the semifinal.
Tommy Sugiarto is an Indonesian badminton player who is a singles specialist. He was the bronze medalist at the 2014 World Championships. Sugiarto competed at the 2014 Asian Games and 2016 Summer Olympics.
Manu Attri is an Indian badminton player who currently plays men's and mixed doubles. He partners with Jishnu Sanyal for men's doubles events and previously partnered with B. Sumeeth Reddy. For mixed doubles events, he partners with N. Siki Reddy, and previously, K. Maneesha. He competed at the 2014 Asian Games, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Srikanth Kidambi is an Indian badminton player. A former world no. 1, Kidambi was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 2018. and the Arjuna award in 2015. In 2021, he became the first Indian to reach the World Championship final in the men's singles discipline.
Gadde Ruthvika Shivani is an Indian badminton player who currently plays singles. She trains at the Gopichand Badminton Academy.
Hong Jingyu (洪静宇), also known as Jing Yu Hong, is a professional badminton player from China who is a doubles and mixed specialist. She started her badminton career at the age of 9.
Dhanya Nair is an Indian professional badminton player.
Aakarshi Kashyap is an Indian badminton player. She was selected to be part of the Indian team at the 2018 Asian Games. She was part of the national women's team that won the gold medal in 2019 South Asian Games.
